Taking a sample of wort

Hey folks.

My primary fermentation vessel doesn't have a tap - what's the best way to fill trial jar to take a sample to determine OG?

Don't tell me I need to buy more equipment?!

Ta.

I used to have a glass pouring jug, about 500ml, I would wash it well and dip it in, making sure my hand holding the handle never touched the brew. I also used to just leave the hydrometer in the brew from the very start, mine had colour codings on it so I knew where it was at glancing at a distance.
