Charter - Not Reading the Rules is Against the Rules

The first topic here mentioned a few rules, but here's a stab at a proper charter:
  1. The purpose of this board is the discussion of Paganism; Pagan beliefs, practices and the Pagan Community. For which purpose Paganism is defined as a collection of spiritual and religious practices with a strong focus on nature, including, but not limited to, Wicca, Druidry, Shamanism, Heathenism, Ásatrú and non-Wiccan Pagan Witchcraft.
  2. The following rules are in addition to the rules that exist for Boards.ie as a whole.
  3. A loose working-definition of what is or is not Paganism will be used. We would rather read an interesting post about Voodoo than a boring to-and-fro about whether it was on-topic or not.
  4. Respect for other people's traditions and practices is expected at all times, including non-Pagan traditions and practices. Disagreements and debate are okay, bigotry is not.
  5. No prosyletising. Anyone trying to convert anyone to anything will be immediately banned.
  6. This board is not affiliated with any group, coven, grove, list, moot, or association. However it isn't unfriendly with them. Discussions about such groups are okay, but this is not the place to settle internal politics.
  7. The moderators may from time to time post announcements about events or other items of interest. These do not represent an endorsement. Caveat emptor!
  8. If you want to see an event or similar announced contact the mods with the appropriate details. Advertising of any kind is strictly prohibited without prior consent.
  9. Report posts which break the rules of the forum so that the mods will see them sooner and take action on them.
If there is a general attitude from someone you've a problem with and it's not just a single post then PM/email a moderator with the details and we'll see what we can do.

If you have any further queries why not try the Site F.A.Q.

A Note on Off-Topic Threads

From the beginning we've had a policy of allowing threads on matters that are not a million miles away from Paganism, but which are strictly speaking off-topic. We're generally happy to do this. In some cases forums have been created since that are better homes for some of these topics (notably the Paranormal forum and the Spirituality forum) and we're even happier when that happens. We'll continue to support threads on paranormal and spiritual matters that are specifically seeking a Pagan perspective, but otherwise separate boards are better for all concerned. It's all part of the way boards.ie grows and develops, and we're glad to have played a part.

At the time of writing we're seeing this happen with the topic of Ceremonial Magic. We could be perverse and say that it's more Christian than Pagan and move it to Christianity, but in reality its a topic that has more bearing on the average Pagan than on the average Christian (unless I am very much mis-informed about what happens at mass these days), especially given that quite a lot of concepts from Ceremonial Magic have influenced some Pagan paths. As such, we're happy to allow for some discussion on this topic and other topics that aren't 100% on-topic.

If you have such a topic in mind, then looking at the first few posts in the thread I'm talking about may be a good idea. Note that the original poster acknowledges the fact that he's not entirely on topic, and focuses as best he can on what the Pagan perspective on the topic is.

In other words he acts much like a polite guest, rather than putting his feet up on the table and telling us to put the kettle on. This is why we like him. He can stay.

If you have an issue with a mod action pm them about it if unsatisfied with the PM route, take things to the Dispute Resolution Forum.
