[UK] Idiot plays chicken with passenger train.

I won't say high speed train as the train quickly comes to a stop if you look at the video. Never the less the idiot is certainly trying to qualify for a position in the Darwin awards.

Just shows you what drivers have to put up with.

"Footage also shows yobs attempting to 'train surf' by grabbing the back of a passenger train in Southend, Essex,"

I remember this was a big thing here on the DART in the mid-late 80's. You'd see loads of them doing it between Harmonstown and Kilbarrack. They'd usually hang onto the wipers while their feet where planted on the buffer beam.

Am I the only one not seeing a train in those pictures?

It's not the train-spotter in me getting out, it's just that photos with captions like "As the train driver slams on the brakes the boy manages to get his upper body on to the platform" and "The boy lies face down on the platform in relief as the train roars past" really need to have trains in them.

What, this doesn't happen all the time? Is it really newsworthy?

The shocking CCTV footage taken from an onboard camera in the driver's cab
You are seeing exactly what the driver saw.
There is no photo of the train as it was forward facing CCTV
