Annoying lack of co-ordination with collecting ID cards!

I went in yesterday to collect my ID card as i had registered online last week and was told I could collect my card from the library reading room between September 7th and 30th. I'm currently on placement and don't have time off with the exception of Monday just gone. So I queued for about half an hour and when I finally got to the desk where the cards were handed out, I was told 'they haven't been printed out for that course yet'. I explained I only had today to collect my card and could they post it. No, they couldn't.

I was getting annoyed as I couldn't understand why the college tell you to collect your card when they don't have them ready. Surely it is just a matter of clicking and printing?? Anyways, I politely said I needed the card and would not be in Galway again to collect it until October. After a bit of a fuss they sent me to another desk where the card was printed in about 30 seconds.

Two classmates of mine had similar experiences today, and one came up to Galway to collect the card. Both were sent away empty handed. Anyone else experience this or was it reserved for 2nd yr postgrads??

Bit annoyed, maybe this ought to be in the rant and rave section.

The college couldn't organise their way out of a wet paper bag never mind organise something as simple as ID card collection or basic services such as on-campus parking for students and staff.

i think the source of your problem may have been the lady you talk to first. if it is who i think it is, she's been causing havoc in there for everyone.

I went in there about a week ago at lunch time (expecting them to be taking a lunch break any minute). There were quite a few queuing for registration but only two for ID cards. Your one just printed it there and then. Only took about 10 seconds. Looks like some aren't as lucky.

Yeah I don't know what is up with the ID card collection times, they seem to get it all confused. I went in and they said no this is only for first years when they say that you can collect them from the 7th to the 30th?!?! I don't know.... So I will probably go in tomorrow or something and get it then.... fingers crossed

When I went in, that lady on the door was ending away students by the dozen, telling them they couldn't collect their cards until next tues, next wed etc etc but why the hell does it tell you bewteen the 7th and the 30th? Only for I insisted I needed that card (politey but firmly I'll admit) did they give it to me and it took 3Oseconds.

Just found out today that my classmate who took yesterday off from placement down the country to collect her card was sent away as she didn't have a print out of her registration..even tho it was online and she had done it last week? I just said my name to the girl and she never asked for a number or anything..

I reckon I will complain as it really annoyed me this year..

Not long now before the desk reserve panic starts...lecturers telling us they have ut the books in but the library not putting them on shelves! I really think there ought to be an NUIG rant thread!!

I'm just started first year so I kind of figured that a lot of my confusion was just down to not being familiar with the whole thing. But I've found a shocking lack of co-ordination and lack of information in general this week. Actually not just this week...from the very first time I rang up to apply.

I went to see if there was any registration happening at Orientation...I wasn't confused that it was closed, as it was Saturday...but what's with the millions of notices on the door?...

"Closed until further notice"
"Closed for lunch"
"Registration from 9.30 - 16.30"

I was like... what? are you open or not open? registration on WHAT DAYS from 9.30 - 16.30?

So anyway I went back on Monday and saw the queue and thought, great, things are happening this time. Then I realised that people were being sent away. All she said was "it's only Law and Commerce registration today". Anyway, found out that Arts is on Thursday (today). Not from her, mind you. But from checking online.

I know that we're not going to be spoon-fed and it's a long time since I was. But basic information...surely it would make their lives easier if everyone was properly informed as well as ours.

I guess this is something I can look forward to for the next few years then?

One of the most laughable things was how they didn't even bother putting up a sign indicating which queue to join. Myself and a few people were standing in the wrong one for about 20 minutes then had to get to the back of the other (longer) queue...

How long are you supposed to wait after registering before going over to collect your ID card?

You would think this would be made clear to people when they are registering..

I can't really wait until next Tuesday or Wednesday for my ID card anyhow because I need it for swipe card access to a lab literally right now.

Do you know yesterday I posted saying that I would come in today and get my card. I just did that and guess what???

I can't collect it until next week!... They have all the cards there in a box, my registration in hand and all they could say was, by looking at a timetable sort of thing, "No Second Arts isn't until next week"......

I know what you're thinking, yeah that isn't such a bad thing, and mind you there was no queue.... but that fact that I am NOT second Arts annoyed me. She didn't even look at my registration statement just assumed I was a certain course all because I said I was second year.

My question is... why do they say collect between 7th and 30th of September when you can't even do that?... All she had to do was hand me my ID card and then I would be on my way, but no... it has to be next week, plus when she went to check the ID cards to see if mine was there she had the wrong year in her hand altogether, so she stated that my card wasn't printed yet, when obviously it can be done in 30 seconds

ARGHH!!...... (OK i don't mean to freak people out or anything but this is just ridiculous)
