Going pro question

Just wondering what is the lowest stakes you can actually make a living at poker and how many tables you would need to play
Also what PT/BB100 you should have minimum

And what does the average day to day grinder play

Not trying to do this just will find it intersting how low you can play while making a living

What would you consider a living? There are different standards. I would not turn pro if I was a reg winner at 5/10 and probably higher FWIW. You would probably make more of yourself, in terms of quality of life, long term prospects and mental health if you just get a job.

I've heard of guys playing 100NL for a living, and I'm pretty sure an australian guy on boards did 50NL for a living for a while. Dunno how/why they would do that.

I did it for 18 months playing a mix of 100nl and 200nl but a living is all it was.. I was putting in the hands and the hours and multitabling. I had decided that I needed 500 a week to make it worth my while so I with drew 500 every week regardless of wins or losses and managed not to go busto but had continued problems moving up stakes because of the withdrawals....

I also managed to make a few large withdrawls and move down levels and rebuild during this period.. Overall my winnings including rakeback came to about 70 k over the period.. but having no travel expenses etc did certainly help...

A good rakeback deal is esential to make it work

I reckon the min stakes for a full time player should be 200nl but to make it comfortable 400 and 600 nl would be closer to the mark

GL with it btw

I would imagine being comfortable at 100 and 200 NL would be OK. Also playing live cash for the easy 2/300 a night and donkaments for the occasional big win.

Never really started it as "turning pro" as such.... more of previous business had to close and it was a stop gap until something else came along...

I was actually happy enough at it but in fairness was becoming a bit of a zombee... A few months back I got offered a few weeks work which turned into a 50 k + job so I would have been mad not to take it..

thats not saying I might be back at it again soon if the economy keeps going the way it is...

EDIT: I see my old blog is still here and the first post is kind of the story behind it if anyone is interested http://demac-blog.blogspot.com/
