Hanging from Drywall

Anyone got any suggestions for what anchor to use when hanging pictures or heavier frames from drywall? Have used toggle bolts when sticking up a few floating shelves in the past, but am unsure of what to use for this. Anyone got any suggestions befroe I go the old "chance it and see" route?

regular rawlplugs should be good enough for hanging pictures, try to drill the hole as neatly as you can. For heavier items its best to use longer screws/plugs and anchor into the block. If there is no block look for battons. Failing that toggle bolts are probably best. Some of those special drywall fixings cause more trouble than they are worth. Watch out for electric wires and water pipes.

i've found these pretty good on plasterboard:

I've used them to hang large mirrors, shelves etc.

these: http://tinyurl.com/38gmez are also available but I've found they make a bit of a mess of the surface plaster (not that important if whatever your hanging will cover the hole). just make sure you get the metal ones - the plastic type are useless.

I like the look of both of them loyatemu, have had trouble with the regular rawls in the past, but both of them might just do the trick. Have used the second ones in the past and while they are a bit messy they're pretty effective.

First type are pretty good. Don't let them start turning in slab. Second type can be a nightmare, if you hit wood or block wth tip. You're left with a huge hole in your wall.
neither type will support more weight than the plasterboard itself.

the second type ive used many times, worms we call them. the trick with them to stop them chewing up te plasterboard is to drill a slightly smaller pilot hole, slightly smaller then the inside shank not the overall diameter. they go in straight and drilling the pilot hole allows you to know if there is a joist or other obstruction. if there not to hand then a red thpe thorsman plug will do.

I use these most of the time and I've never had a problem. Most stuff you buy (curtain poles, bathroom fittings, etc) come with masonary plugs which are a disaster when it comes to fixing to plasterboard.
