Transfering Data from Old Hard Drive to New

I bought a new Western Digital 7200 16mb SATAII HD today that has already replaced my old, dying Maxtor 8mb SATA job.

I still have a huge amount of data on the old drive, and i'm wondering is there any way of getting data (music, files and games) from the old drive onto my new one? The simple answer is to hook the old hard drive up again and then get and external hard drive, but unfortunately I can't get my hands on one for a while.

I've already finished installing XP and some esential programmes on the new drive. Now I would really like to get the other data on ASAP.

Thanks

can you not just put in the old drive at the same time as the new drive and boot your new windows off the new drive and just copy over all the files you need?? presumable your motherboard has more than one sata connection. the second drive should appear in my computer and you just access it and take what you want.

Yeah, it has 4 of them - ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe

I was just concerned that 2 installations of XP and SATA v SATA II would cause problems.

Thanks

id say you should be okay there, the only difference between sata and sataII is speed and there is no problem having a mixture and even if you put in the second drive id say it should still boot from the new drive..
