Typical the car is due the NCT on Sunday and decides to start overheating yesterday

I changed the raidiator control swtich and the thermostat last night and it seemed to do allow the fan to run again until this afternoon it started overheating again. The head is fine but there seems to be alot of pressure building up in the radiator. Any ideas??

Few questions:
Does the fan work now? Does the car overheat in traffic and/or on the move?

Does the heater blow hot air when the car is warmed up? Does the radiator and the hoses connected to it get hot? Does the car use any coolant?

Are there any signs of exhaust gases entering the expansion tank. Look for agitation, bubbles, foam etc in the tank when the engine is running. Also you may get a smell of exhaust from the tank. Some Punto engines are renowned for blowing their head gasket and exhaust gases in the coolant would be a sign of a blown gasket and would cause overheating.

now that you mention gases... that would make sense... but I don;t see any discolouring in the oil or on the dipstick.... The fan was coming on after I changed the switch but its not coming on tonight. Checked the fan and its working fine.

Head gasket blowing extremely common in Punto's.

Its blowing cold air alright but the smell off the heater when I turn on the hot air
