Does anyone know where I can find info on where the telephone exchanges are located and what types they are?

I have googled and live searched, but nothing specific coming up.

Which exchanges are you interested in ? Someone will most likely be able to pinpoint them on google maps or M$ Live maps for you

Was specifically interested in ones around Dublin Road Kilkenny and also Waterville Kerry at the moment.

Surprised there is any list of locations.

Their location/nature are well held secrets. If you live locally, it's easy to identify the bigger/older ones, but there is no published list of lat/long coords and DSL-enabled status anywhere. There is a list, just not published.

If you have a more specific question like "is exchange X enabled?", or "where is the exchange for Dublin 2 area" you might get someone who has the list, or local knowledge, to tell you.

Similarly, Smart Telecom line checker tells you the exchange a given phone number is on, if that's of any use.

Exchanges don';t tend to be really signposted, for example in Waterford I could tell you were the central exchange is but no idea where Tycor is...in my local town I can find the exchange but then its a small building in a park area so it can't be missed :)

It's not in the interest of National security to publish these locations.
Sure if it was common knowledge, al Qaeda would have blown them up years ago!

Now move along please, nothing to see here

I have a fairly up to date (Jan/Feb) list of about 550 DSL exchanges. There has been more upgraded since, but not announced.

I also have a list of about 250 with co-ords, DSL and non-DSL.
For some reason they won't upload as attachments so I'll upload them to webspace later.

I'd be interested in knowing where the Bray exchange(s) is/are .. my line attenuation figures seem very high considering where I am in the town.

Ever considered putting these all up on google maps - say one color marker for dsl enabled and one for not enabled ? Would be quite useful for peoples reference as long as they can remember that copper runs are anything but straight and that the path it takes to your house/office is not guaranteed to be the shortest available one.

I belive IoffL v2.0 have done some work on that (as part of a realistic broadband coverage map), but I don't know when, or if, that will be completed.

Aha! .. behind the main Post Office .. why didn't I think of that :) About 1.8km as the crow flies, but my attenuation is consistent with a distance of about 3.5km, so it must take a pretty tortuous route.

Maybe that Crow simply shat on the cable instead of flying Alun and that in 1983 but nobody cleaned it off since.

The majority of exchanges are located at or around the Local Garda Station.

    HA! loved that.

Put them in other way round.

As BP said it's next to the Garda station.

There must be another on the Dublin road because when the Eircon engineer said he was going to pop out to the exchange I asked him how long he would be, 5 minutes he said, it's just around the corner. And he was, just a few minutes.

    Thanks.

Some tend to be at the back of Garda stations.

    Hi.

Can anyone give me the location of the exchange in Dun Laoghaire.

    Thanks.

It's on Patrick St, up the top end on the right hand side coming from the town just after the vet and right before the Builders providers.

Anyone have a location for the Glenealy exchange? It seems to have just been enabled for ADSL (rumour confirmed by online checkers) possibly just yesterday when we moved in to our new place there...
