More on the Secret Life of Leo Traynor.

It seems he also claims to have been an A&E Nurse.

Is there anything this guy can't do?

Also, Dr. Leo Traynor wasn't alway so forgiving and kind. Here are some interesting quotes:

"I see the Lockerbie bomber Megrahi's finally dead. Good. A great pity the scumbag didn't die in jail. I hope the animal suffered."
    http://topsy.com/s?q=%40leotraynor+lockerbie

If you're angry about the church or banks or politicians - don't calm down. Calmness is overrated. Stay angry & push for change
    http://topsy.com/s?q=%40leotraynor+calmness

Jesus H Christ. This Tuffy person is a frigging skidmark on the underpants of politics #vinb
    http://topsy.com/s?q=%40leotraynor+tuffy

    Talking ****e
    http://topsy.com/s?q=%40leotraynor+****e

    And interestingly enough:

"You can't make up anything anymore. The world itself is a satire. All you can do is record it." ~ Arthur Buchwald
    http://topsy.com/s?q=%40leotraynor+buchwald

My bet, Leo Traynor is the alter ego of a fiction writer doing character research or a journalist who's gone over the edge.

When I read this story for the first time it just didn't sit right. Subsequent reads haven't altered my opinion. It reads like something from a failed creative writing student.

Now he should bring the gardai to task for ignoring a death threat against him. He's got the publicity - how about preventing the same situation happening to someone else by shaming the gards? Maybe even result in disciplinary action for the gards involved. Fck, he could get a good few more blog stories out of it too!

That is unless there was never any gards involved to begin with......

If its not bullcrap, isnt he basically naming the kid to everyone in the local community? How many parents of 15-16 year olds could he know?

Seriously this article is complete and utter bull and its actually the person who wrote the article is trolling. I come from an IT background. No one can trace an IP address from a twitter comment unless they work for twitter and even then only a small minority who work for twitter have access to that information. If he was receiving racist and threatening remarks on twitter the guards are able to file a report and pass it on to there computer forensic team who will fill out a report and contact twitter for the IP information. Twitter wont release the IP address directly to the person who received the abuse, only to the gaurds who can than proceed to track down that person. If the IP address is located outside the country there generally will be no prosecution against the person, maybe if the person was in the UK . The person who wrote the blog is just a complete and utter troll. Guards are so uneducated in this country that if something like this happened to you, better off contacting there main headquarters and speak with one of there IT/Forensic team

You have a lot of what Leo has said wrong. The IP did not come from twitter. The troll was lured to a private blog and his IP address was logged when he posted. How he went from IP to troll is less clear, reasons given by Leo and others include IP geolocation, research on what the IP has been logged doing at various sites on the internet and directly analysing what Leo's computer knew about his friends' IPs. Leo has not made any satisfactory statement on the issue.

The two of ye should give yourselves more credit.

This person made up a story to cynically manipulate a hysterical media thus cheapening and taking focus from genuine cases of online harassment.

Surely you are better than this horrible creature?

Feck sake.. you can't escape this crap!

It's the top main story on the daily Slashdot newsletter this evening

You'd expect the Slashdot crowd to tear that apart but they're fairly accepting of it.

Oh Good Lord, he's now pulled the post where he claimed to have a DPhil. It's still in the Google cache and I have a screenshot, but this is surreal:

It would be brilliant if the blog was written by some 17 year old. That'd be some good trolling.

Actually I think whoever is writing this is doing it to make a point.

Only problem -- I can't figure out what point other than that most Internet hand wringers will believe anything that suits them.

Ok folks, an update. CHeck this out. I think someone has taken Leo's name here to denounce him for an earlier IP tracing scandal in Dublin http://pages.citebite.com/u5y7f4q6ksxu

I originally thought this thread was going to be a repost of that story when I was opening it to read the other day, and to be honest when you look at the timing I think the simplest explanation is that Leo read that story and it planted a seed in his mind about an idea for a blogpost, maybe it got a bit out of hand and he wasnt expecting it to be quite so popular.

Theres just no way the Gardai ignored a box of ashes being sent to a Jewish guys house, they just wouldnt do it, out of fear for their careers if nothing else.

Yes, I think that's one explanation, that he took his inspiration from the earlier IP scandal.

Here are two other ones that are totally out there:

    1) This is a revenge parable, Leo Traynor is getting revenge on Chris Andrews by creating a story in which Andrews is a super troll and putting it out there on Yom Kippur

    2) Someone is pranking Leo Traynor and stole his identity to do this

P.S. It is looking like Leo Traynor exists. I'm guessing the fact he has no internet presence other than social media is due to the fact he's a giant layabout.

The commenter who uses the Leo Traynor names says Leo also claimed to be in the IDF.

    Whew!

Possibly, I'm slightly confused though. This is the comment on broadsheet:
Very interesting that the person who did it then shut down their Twitter account on Saturday night citing Anti-Semitic abuse. He was immediately identified. What is even more interesting is that this Walter Mitty character (IDF, journalist, PhDer, spin doctor, writer) who lives in Rathmines, around the corner from said Internet cafe, in fact had a Fianna Fail TD lobby on his behalf to get social welfare. He doesn’t work, citing ME or some such illness, yet spends his time between the Canaries, his flat in London, and his large gaff in Rathmines. You’ve been busted, son.

Of course he’ll be back on Twitter. Cannot stay off it, his third time storming off. The odd hyphen slipped into user names, etc.

This comment by "Leo Traynor" appears to be describing the person that we know as "Leo Traynor". Furthermore, if that's the case, it appears to be saying that Leo Traynor is the one who tracked down Chris Andrews.

To be clear the above is just from the comment. Eddy Carroll wrote the dossier on Chris Andrews, but the other details don't match him (stormed off twitter etc.) https://twitter.com/eddycarroll

First story about Chris Andrews IP hacking doesn't jibe with second.

First claims sophisticated IP tracking op took months:

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/sting-op-exposes-andrews-over-ff-twitter-rants-3197102.html

Second claims it took Eddy Carroll only a few hours:

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/husband-unmasked-former-ff-td-chris-andrews-after-phantom-tweets-targeted-wife-3202402.html

Commenter using Leo Traynor name says Leo Traynor done it. Then, a few days later out comes a report putting it down to Eddy Carroll's tech genius.

    Bizarre.
