! By the way, if anyone is coughing for an unnaturally long time do let me know because I was cured of years of coughing just recently and am enjoying the blessing of cough-free days and nights. I think my body is awake waiting for the coughing to start! It's in shock!

Yessss, Jelly, I was awake last night - coughing almost continuously. So, yes, if you have a cure, please do share

The thing is, if like me, you cough for weeks, months, years, without there being any chance of you having a cold, get it checked out by a specialist, GP's don't really know until they send you to the top brass. Turns out I have reflux. Meds have fixed me up good and proper. Lack of sleep is my problem now but its great to be cough-free.

And aren't you gardeners the energetic lot, I thought it was too early to cut grass with frost and rain and wotnot about!

The grass never really stopped growing this winter, it has been so mild. It was gorgeous out today, a bit chilly but so nice to see the sun. I think there would have to be frost within a day or two to affect the grass when it has been cut, I've taken the chance anyway, it was really quite wet considering there was a good breeze blowing. If we get really cold weather now I'd say a lot of things will be n trouble as there is a lot of growth.

There's a horrible cold with a cough and chestyness going - I am nearly 3 weeks into it, nearly gone now but still have an irritating little cough, not something I am normally subject to.
    .................. QUOTE]

Jesus, I possibly got it of you looksee. Two weeks ago nose running and sneezing and sore from paper towels, then last week bad chest cough and the last couple of days very tired ......... so much that I could not go to daughter's birthday party last night. Today went out driving and after a few hours came home and hit the sack for two hours of sleep. Have been taking cough medicines, drinking enough water etc. Sometimes when I cough I think my head is going to take off. Could there be an O & O virus lurking in boards?

That's it Spread - especially the tiredness! I tried not to breathe on the keyboard, but it obviously got past my virus checker.

Hallelujah! All sickness has disappeared. Up early and not one sneeze, senior moment or salivation :D. And for this I thank The Lord, The Budda, Mohammed Mucinex tablets and bottle.

    Goodnight and Good Morning :)

No, not for about 10 days. Was going to have a few quick ones to try and relieve the symptoms but decided against. Would usually have a couple of bottles a week. The only shakes are from the cold .......... -15C and have just walked one of the hounds.

Hey Spread, what time do you wake up in the mornings?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭Spread

6.30 EST. After personal ablutions let two of the hounds out in the field ...... have to walk the third with a leash as she is untrainable ......... a rescue dog from the tornado in Tuscaloosa last year. The vet has said that she suffers from PTSD. Because of her behaviour I've got onto the local rescue centre and, as there is a wait of about six weeks am stuck with her 'til then. We inherited her with the two others but as the tail is now wagging the dog, it's time for byebyes. A few days ago she was out all day .......... would not come back in and barked incessantly for eight hours at a neigbour's house. This has happened a few times and we've had no complaints ....... but if we can hear her fom over 100 yds think of the racket the neighbours hear from their backyard. So before we get complaints ......... she's got to go. Very loveable but cannot be trusted. As I was brought up in a house full of geyhounds I realise that some - just like humans - just don't get it. So before we get PTSD it's goodbye Sammy.

Fair play Spread for making the effort with rescue dogs. Hopefully she will be found another good home where she can be rehabilitated, though the prognosis, from what I've read, does not seem good.

I must confess that I did not know what the initials PTSD stood for but Wikipedia came to my rescue.

Think we'd all have PTSD if we'd been in a tornado too! Poor Sammy.

Hi Spread, its great that you are so caring about Sammy, the poor soul.As a suggestion - she might not really like the hounds as a bitch. if i was put in with the hounds I would probably bark at the house to let me in too! Saying that some dogs just are barking mad as it were - I live next door to an operatic beagle!

Thanks all - for the kind words. Firstly, both Sammy and Twila (Twilight:confused:) are alpha females ......... while Sadie just wants food, hugs, a little light exercise chasing the football and sleep. The former get into it occasionaly and there is a little frisson in the air at times. This was not a well thought out strategy but it is one that we inherited. Twila is a Blue Tick hound .... doesn't bark but howls. As we live behind the Fire Station she gets practice in the vocal department at least twice a week. Last night's Full Moon did it as well and she never came back in after her 10PM gallop. This may be partially due to some argument with Sammy but who knows. So she woke us a good few times ........ and would also have woken the neighbours . So am reluctant to let those two out tonight and will have to walk them instead. Because of the snow the electric fence is out of order and I cannot see the break.
Anyway, it will be resolved one way or the other in six weeks or so. :)

Spread, its sounds like a right howl! :D

Maybe there is some sort of doggie valium you could give them or why not splash a few drops of brandy over their food - might relax them :)

You sure you're not mixing something with your Golden Virginia, golden virginia? Just back from early morning jaunt/sniff fest and they want to go out for more. A lot of the snow went last night as midnight temp was +16C! I feel a bit of Spring coming :)

Got my Pineapple Uke today :D. Now if only we can find the booklet, self tuner and CD that came about six weeks ago. Karma for the hounds as I'll practice out there with them.
