What is it? Need this for a spaghetti bolognese but didn't see any "passata" in the local Tesco among the many tomato based items.

In many recipes, you can blitz tinned tomato as a substitute.

    Passata is sieved tomato.
Basically any lumpy bits are removed including seeds.
Lidl have one in a blue 500ml tetrapak carton which I find good.

Yep, found it. Is passata and puree the one and the same?

I don't think they are the same.

Puree is concentrated tomato, it comes in a tube or very small can. You might add a table spoon or two to bolognese sauce.
Passata is much runnier and you'd use a lot more of it in your recipe. It is tomato's blitzed in a food processor and sived. some passata's can include herbs also.

No, puree is generally concentrated as mentioned, i.e. water is removed from it. I prefer using thicker pastes on pizza.

My tesco has passata in 2 places, usually it will be with the pasta sauces but also for some reason it is in another unrelated section, along with tins of beans & spaghetti.

    I used to drink passata!

This is one of the best I've found. I think it's in a blue carton?
