Darren Sadler has moved in to the World of Promoting. The former U105kg World Champion who has had a very successful decade in strongman has decided to get involved in promoting. This doesn't spell the end of his sporting career but after a couple of injuries and a new gym he has been enjoying a hiatus from the sport. His next step is to help Giants Live put on one of the most ambitious shows to date. Headingly Stadium in Leeds (Home of the Leeds Rhinos) will play host to Europe's Strongest Man on June 23rd 2012.. With Big names Terry Hollands, Laurence Shahlaei, Vytautas Lalas and Stefan Solvi Petursson already signed up this has the makings of a classic event. TICKETS ON SALE IN JANUARY
For European athletes outside of great Britain and Ireland invitations are being sent out on previous performances. However, one of the major elements in making this one day contest happen is the qualification process that will lead up to it for the athletes inside the UK and Ireland. Here is the information for athletes from England (invite only), Scotland (Open), Wales /Ireland(Open):

First IDFPA deadlift competition will be held in Bandon Co Cork on 10th March. This would be an ideal event for someone thinking of getting involved in powerlifting competitions to get started with.

I keep forgetting to post things in here:

    Irish Intervarsities and DCU Open

Weigh-in 10-11 in house 19 (next to the sports centre), the competition begins at 12 in the minor hall in DCU sports centre. Lifting must conclude by 6pm, so open competitors will be accepted on a "first come, first served" basis. Intervarsities competitiors must bring a valid student ID to weigh in, 20€ entry, half price with an Irish Sports Council "real winner" cert, payment may be made here or at weigh-in. I'm terrible at this, two events tomorrow:

Weightlifting Ireland Women's Open in Crossfit West Dublin, Celbridge, starts 12pm, weigh in 10-11. The first ever Women only weightlifting competition to be held here and possibly on the british Isles. The last bit could be wrong but that's never stopped me before.

IPO Powerlifting Nationals are on Tomorrow at the following address:

    Ballyfermot Leisure Centre,
    Blackditch Road,
    Ballyfermot,
    Dublin 10.

Also, if people can inform either Drifter or myself of Powerlifting and strongman stuff early it'd give people a chance to enter. I'm a filthy communist weightlifter so I don't keep track of the Powerlifting comps and rely on others to know when stuff is on.
