Story I heard was, that it has been closed - FOR GOOD.
Due to the availability of counterfeit CD's,DVD's...etc..etc..
We'll have to wait and see....

the real story is yesterday was the last day.......

........for the month of october, and after halloween due to the availability of fireworks, and a huge crackdown on the selling of them

Actually heard it's being assessed in January.

PSNI closed it down due to counterfeit stuff.

so it might be worth the gamble to take a drive up next sunday and see what is going it , possibly be some traders there ??

next question ..does anybody now a nearby market in the border area where i can buy the same merchandise similarly available in jonesborough ?

*edit (PORNAPSTER) - We do not want anything illegal to be discussed about on this forum*

    cheers

The only other one I can think of off hand, is Clougher market, on Saturdays. Its just off on the Cavan-Clones road, but nowhere near Jonesborough.

Clogher Market, its pretty big, its on the monaghan/cavan/fermanagh border, tho if the PSNI are closing jonesborough market down then there could be a possibility of this one beig closed.

Yes, but you don't see the amount of pirate DVD/CD-ROM's in Clougher that you did in Jonesborough.

Though Clougher is in an interesting spot, for the PSNI to get there, they have to go into the Republic, something they don't do often....

Jonesborough isn't closed at! What was all that last week about the raids????

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,088 ✭✭✭andrew1977

    Hi Sparks 400

Is Jonesboro still in full swing on a sunday afternoon ?,i heard it had closed but found it hard to believe the traders would let their busiest earning day go down the pan without a fight

So if i headed up there on sunday all the usual stalls will be still be selling openly ???

Hopefully so ,i need to pick up a fair few bargains which i had been looking for in the past few weeks but had thought the market was closed .

    cheers for the post

There was an ad in this week's Argus saying that Jonesborough was closed until 2006 at the earliest. However, there is a new banner hanging from one of the overpasses on the M1 at Drogheda saying that Jonesborough is open on Sundays as usual.

I have no idea what's going on but a quick trip on Sunday will tell all...

Why the hell would you want to go to that kip and sonner it is closed the better it is a disgrace full of Itenerants and Scum selling fireworks to children, illegal material and even guns.

Close it down and stop the funding of terrorism and crime that it produces.

    Hi all

Made the trip across the border yesterday to Jonesboro

I have never seen it as busy ,place was packed , in full swing as per the old days

Massive amount of fireworks for sale up there (its legal cross border) ,plus all the normal merchandise on sale also

I see the forcing of it to close has really worked ..yeah right

It was like Christmas Eve there. It was the busiest ive ever seen it. Noticed the sign at Ravensdale enterance "Jonesborough Markets Open sunday and every sunday". Nobody seems to know what is going to happen to it.

It is not legal to sell fireworks in NI you have to be licensed to do so and the scum there are defying a court order and also it is set to be shut down for good soon a cross border operation with both police forces is underway

Joint cross border police operation ...i will believe it when i see it !!

dont hold your breath on that score...u will be turning purple rather quickly !!

sorry, wish i had more faith in either police organisations

I heard a rumour that it was going close down after Halloween when they have all their fireworks sold, mightn't be true though

Wont ever believe it. They have been closing Jonesboro for the past 50 years (kidding) 'for good' and you can bet it'll be open the next Sunday. Sure if they are kicked out by the PSNI, just run 10m to the left into ROI and they can't do anything.

The two forces are working more closely these days. If they both get their acts together they could well do it.

    Are you sure?:

I know it's near "The Border Bite" but I don't think it's cut off.

In any case, I didn't think that the PSNI could cross the border on normal operations (similarly for the Garda).

Once. however, I did see a Garda officer directing traffic in Northern Ireland. It was a few metres over the border and he was alerting motorists of an accident. He had taken his hat off, so I presume he was acting in a private capacity until the PSNI arrived. Common sense really, as there could have been further accidents had he not been there.

Just a note to Woody there (anti-fun minister on this thread it appears) what is wrong with goin up the north to buy fireworks, just because our own government don't trust us enough so they make them illegal? Are you sure you're not working for the government? It seems to me you're supporting the fact that Bertie and Co. barely trust us with a fckn sparkler!!

I have no problem buying fireworks in the north. I have no problem with fireworks.

I have a problemm with Bertie making them illegal though

Eh, you do know that this law has nothing to do with him right?
I have no problem with fireworks either, when they are used correctly - alas, you wont find that in the real world.
In other news, I see in the Argus this week a little advert taken out by the Jonesboro market owners about it having to close down.
