As some one that works in the Dunnes in the center (really getting hammered in here) it's illegal for anything to be on the shelf after its best before date, you can get a fine for each item. That's not to say that mistakes don't happen though

Ah, that would explain why a few months ago, a manager in Roselawn Tesco's had his staff instantly clear out a whole freezer section after I pointed out the out-of-date foods in it. I thought it odd how swiftly he took action and just thought he was doing a bit of PR.

There is a lovely 'Trolley' guy in Roselawn Tesco's, He is so helpful and seems to be in a good mood all of the time. Have to say it does encourage me to shop there.

maybe that's why Superquinn is losing money to beat the band. I was in there the other evening at 8pm and had the store to myself...apart from staff wandering around. I know having someone stand at the checkout fulltime to pack your bags is a nice touch but I always feel this really is something a customer can do themselves (unless you request assistance). The annual cost of hiring staff for that feature alone must be significant.

Routine customer service in a supermarket is a funny thing as when its good you never notice it cos its effortless and you carry on with your day

I'd agree with most other people, Lidl and Aldi in Clonee are very good, although by all accounts tough companies to work for.

The Dunnes in Ongar has got a lot of stick on here over time but its improved in the last few months and the staff are nice and seem fairly tight knit. However access to it, parking, trollies, environs etc are all very poor. I gave up on Dunnes in Blanch, can get packed and parking at peak times isnt worth it

Superquinn is great for all their specialist stuff, they do a poor range of brands though for your everyday needs.

Tesco in Roselawn is like a time warp to Super Crazy Prices - they should expand it, sell it to Super Valu or shut up shop altogether. However as has been mentioned the new Tesco in Cabra is really good. Its not quite as big as Maynooth or Clarehall but the facilities are top notch. One of those around Clonsilla or Mulhuddart etc would be just the job as Cabra is a bit of a haul unless youre passing it......

Slightly off topic but something that Ive brought up before but could never get an answer for , how come Lidl get away without having a best before date on most , if not all of their veg?? Its the main reason I never buy there to be honest.

AFAIK best before dates are only legally required on raw eggs, nothing else.

There is a Tesco Express in Mulhuddart...

Yeah I knew that alright, which is grand for local needs, what I mean is they would easily have the potential trade to justify one of their megastores in the area - competition with the German brands would be good

That sells about 3 of their own brand products. The spar around the corner is cheaper.

M&S staff are so friendly and helpful.

There is a male cashier (poss. a manager) in the Aldi in Clonee who is ridiculously fast at scanning goods!

    probably a German!

They have a quota of items per hour they have to scan. If they stop scanning they have to key in that they've stopped. One of the girls in Aldi told me what it is one day, can't remember exactly but it's pretty massive and explains why they usually only have a few tills open cos they need the traffic through each operator.

Staff in M&S in Blanch will always thank you for waiting when they go to serve you.

I was in Liffey Valley M&S today and the lady who served me did not do this.

BTW, there is a man in the Blanch M&S who is so friendly and efficient, think his name is Sunday. Whenever I say "Thanks, see you again" he always answers "Please God" - I get a kick out of this for some reason!

Yeah, Sunday is a nice guy.

Was in Superquinn today and all the trolleys outside were filthy! Something I'd expect from Dunnes or Tesco maybe but not SQ.

I find it a bit insincere though as they apologise to me even if I only had to wait behind one person.

Bit harsh. I mean obviously they're not genuinely sorry and going to be worrying about keeping you waiting when they go home, but the fact they're either thoughtful enough to apologise to begin with or M&S think enough about a customer's experience to have that within their training policy says a lot.

Well, they're just reading out the "anyone could be a mystery shopper, say these things to the customer" instructions they have recently added to their tills.

I got two filled rolls in here today in the deli. I was served by a sour faced dark haired girl who seemed to hate her job and seemed extremely pissed off at having to do some work. it cost nearly 7 euro for the two. When I got home the rolls were rock hard, obviously from the day before. Very poor form and I won't be going back there as it's not the first time.

Avoid this deli if you want fresh food.

I think it'd be a good idea to make a complaint to the manager and/or email head office of Spar. They won't be happy that a franchise is letting the name down.

By contrast, the SPAR deli at the back of the Ballycoolin Business Park is excellent. Friendly staff, fresh food, decent prices, superb hygiene & fairly fast service during the busy lunch period.

It's amazing the difference a few decent employees can make.

Staff in Eurospar Hartstown are fairly good too.

They are a pain in the h0le! That shop in general is an excuse and the staff are always in a mood and very loud!

The Spar in Mulhuddart village is actually a lot more expensive than the Spar beside the Off Licence in ''The Crescent''. Also be sure to check your change in BOTH places and also that you're charged the advertised price label price. The have a habit of not updating their barcodes especially with ''special offers''. Have had to pull them up on numerous ocasions about this!

On the topic of Spar in Mulhuddart,I agree with above poster re: check the till operator charges you the correct 'offer price', I have been nearly overcharged in there a good few times. Sometimes with the polish girls there you nearly have to have a row with them to prove the item is on sale for 1euro or whatever.
My current bugbear with Spar is their advertising of an offer on chicken breasts the past 2 weeks, I am in there 4-5 days a week, I have yet to see stock of this offer.
The shop itself is looking a bit scruffy if you ask me, and the portions in the Deli counter are dependant on the staffs humour so I don't bother buying out of it anymore.

Spar in the crescent is the worst I've seen. Deli staff are always pissed off with something and the till operators scowl at you if you're more than 10 seconds putting the stuff into their ****e bags. You'd think they'd bag the stuff for you instead of throwing the bag at you and staring at you while you put the stuff in.

Back to Spar in ''The Crescent''..just when you think you've seen and heard it all, the security guy now seems to have taken to greeting the male customers as ''sweet heart''. Wonder what he does when greeting the female customers?:eek: Maybe it's the latest security technique to make potential shop lifters think twice or maybe he's just gone a bit Tutti Frutti with the Fruit Pastiles!

Standard practise it seems, have seen and heard others given the same greeting by this guy. Me mates have nicknamed him ''Little Richard''.

And avoid buying 400g Charleville cheese in Spar at The Crescent unless you have 5.49 euros :eek::eek:
