Just my google calendar with all of the confirmed marathons and Ultra marathons in Ireland for 2012 (more added as I get them). Some of the Adventure races also. A few choice international Ultra events added. If you want stuff added PM me, feel free to use it (pass it on) just please let me know of any updates or incorrect dates.

(Just so everyone knows, I'm combining all the updates into the first post in the thread so there's only a single list. That's why your posts are disappearing :) )

Here's a list of all events in the Phoenix Park this year.

Hi RayCun, just wondering why the 1/2 marathon in Achill Island on 7th July not listed or the Dingle full and 1/2 marathon on 1st September not listed, think Dingle might have Ultra also but that is dependent on numbers?

    Because nobody posted them :)
I don't trawl the web for race info, I just add the links that people post on here

This is a collaborative effort. If you want to include a race, go right ahead. If you spot a mistake, verify and correct it. God knows the mods are bloody lazy these days, but they've enough to be doing without taking on extra work the forum at large could be doing.

Too right!! Especially given the exorbitant salaries they're on.

Wonder what those 5 mile races on Wednesday evenings are during the summer - June 6th, July 11th and August 8th.

Thanks for putting us on the list 'The Rockford' will do as it has stood the test of time since 1980 :D

Can you also get rid of the green colour on all the IMRA races, as the intention was for the information to be readable? People know what IMRA means, they don't need a separate colour for its own sake.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

Would a darker green work better, or you just don't like the idea?

Can't read the text very well at the moment, and my eyesight is pretty good.:)

A darker green would work better, and I don't like the idea. Style over substance; the races are already tagged IMRA.

I find different colours easier to scan through - you can see there's a hill/XC/track race faster than you can read the details. The main motivation was to highlight the track and XC, since we've had threads about both this year where people have expressed an interest in doing them, but didn't know when they were on. This makes them stand out as something different from the mass of road races.

I've put in the initial effort for the past few years in putting together a race calendar, which takes a bit of time and effort. You want to add bells and whistles because you think they add to it: it's all yours.

Personally I think it should be a google doc

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Alh6ofJoLlpTdDM3M1N6RG0tRE5GTVFSY0l0NUh6c1E#gid=0

as that will produce a nice webpage like this. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Alh6ofJoLlpTdDM3M1N6RG0tRE5GTVFSY0l0NUh6c1E&single=true&gid=0&output=html

If county, price, distance etc are all filled in like this is is easy to build a little search around it too that would actually work other than the crap on runireland. I do think there should be a column for provisional date as some may be. Also it is pretty easy to build a google calendar from it too.

I have no objections to you adding the races above to a google document, and updating it as new race threads are added to the subforum (or you hear of races from somewhere else). I'll happily replace the list above with a link if you do that.
    :)

I don't have an issue maintaining the document and getting the search working but the point of it is for everyone to add their own races to build a complete calendar. Due to it being a huge task I don't it can be done by a single person. Perhaps a sorted table by date on the forum would be a better approach ?

Quick question: Whats the best 10k race to aim for a sub40 attempt?

I had GIR in mind on April 14th (42min last year), but the K-Club 10k the following week may be a better course for it (never ran it)?
I dont think this years GIR goes down the Fury Glen, so that might be an advantage over previous years?

    Are there better alternatives?

Mick Manning 10km in Dunshaughlin is good race always with fast times.

A lot of people run GIR and the Kclub race and normally they are 30-40 seconds faster on the Kclub course. Great race too.

Pretty sure it still does go through the glen.
Last year I ran 39.58 in the GIR, about 40 seconds faster at the K-Club
