    He had no insurance.

The Garda was way out of line but quite obviously just wasn't arsed at all because of the fact it was a northern reg.

There's only so much gusto a person who works 40 hours a week plus 15 commuting to park west has when it comes to endlessly making fruitless phone calls to the Gardaí.

Especially when you know, however unjust and unfair it is, that Garda probably does have his hands tied.

A garda friend told her afterwards that your man should have been arrested and his car seized since he admitted he had no insurance but c'est la vie. People who are shít at their jobs exist everywhere - even in the Gardaí.

She should have been given his insurance details on the spot, she could then have instructed her own insurance company to claim on her behalf. Assuming of course that the northern driver had cover.
The investigating Garda surely has to shoulder some blame for not establishing their identity.
I feel sorry for your friend, when the law is on the criminals side.
I certainly wouldn't just take the hit lying down.

Tell her to call http://www.dvlni.gov.uk/contactUs.htm with whatever details she has. They won't give her any info but will track down the driver and pass him on to the Guardaí. They hand over people's details to Dublin parking companies so it should be easy for the Guards to get info from them in this case.

Wasn't this tailgating thing happening on the m50 toll barrier free too? They install cameras to get the reg from the back then so camera's both sides to catch the tailgaters if im not mistaken?

If there's heave traffic and you stay tight to the car in front there's still a chance that you won't be seen from a fixed camera.

Yeah but ther only way they wouldn't get your reg from the back was if somebody else was tailgating the original tailgater and so on?

They have his name and address and home telephone number.

But because it's up the North it's a 'grey area' apparently.

Trust me. We tortured the poor girl with hindsight-wisdom and righteous courses of justice but in reality you can't turn a rusted wheel that's as rusted as this Garda is.
