Food dehydrator

    hey guys, i mentioned in a thread here the other day that I was building a dehydrator. So i decided id stick up a guide for anyone interested.

    here she is in her minimalist glory:

    First I took a tough plastic box with a hinged lid, and hole saw'd two holes for the fans.

    then I soldered up two computer fans to a power supply and glued them to the outside of the case

    the side opposite to the fans I drilled a whole loada holes in the wall

    after that I glued a layer of aluminium foil inside the box

    and added a lightbulb through the lid of the box in a ceiling fixture

    once all the parts were together I simply added in a tray and started dehydrating

    the herbs on the picture are the first thing to go in that dehydrator. only made it over the weekend.

    but i had one made before that i made a bunch of jerky and fruit with

    Cool, can you seriously make jerky in this?

    When I get back to Ireland I am so building one of these and making dried mango :D

    woo, my first batch of dried, chopped, mixed herbs. perfect for any kitchen

    batch 3 of jerky just gone on. takes about 12hrs a batch.
    made some biltong too which took a bit longer, maybe 18hrs but was damn tasty
