Probably best off ringing directory enquiries (11811 I think) and asking them.

A long time ago I used to collect manga from forbidden planet in Dublin, but the prices became outrageous, so I stopped...so I was wondering if the other place had roughly the same prices (20 euros for a book I can get for 7 in spain), or are they a reasonable price?

EDIT: Also, I found various links to the Anime And Manga Society Of Dublin, one in your signature, which links to a DCU site, and the anime.ie one, but neither work :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭Art_Wolf

Yeah fraid prices are still a big pain :/

You'll find most manga pricedaround the ~14euro mark but still go to france etc and they are 5-7euro >_<

Heh yeah, hadnt noticed I'd misspelled the url ^_^;; fixed now.

Your best bet for animé in Ireland is a good net connection cause 90% of the stuff you buy here is crap or teeeeeeeeeerribly over priced. so you can,

1 - Get a healthy broadband connection and dload it, cause there is a lotta great animé that's never put up for USA or European release, or it takes faaaaar too long untill it's done. And personally, I prefer subs instead of dubs.

    or

    2 - Import it from places like Play.com or CDwow.ie or CDuniverse.com

It drives me insane hearing people say that Animé is all the same or looks all the same or is just crap. But in terms of the selection of animé that we have to choose from in this country, I can see where these people are coming from....

    Virgin - The Square, Tallaght

Has once again put up an anime section, but this time are tring to make an effort. Nothing special however, at least for the moment, you can pick things like Princess Mononoke or Kiki's Delivery Service at around €30. Since the section has only been there a month it might be worth giving them some time to build the collection. They also have a decent martial arts section beside the anime.

How much do mangas cost in Ireland? I'm going to Dublin and I'd like to know ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 917 ✭✭✭carbonkid

I agree with graki if your going to buy anime you better off getting it on-line on play.com or maybe bargainanime.com.

Ive seen some good offers in hmv or tower but all the comic shops are total rip off!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭Art_Wolf

Anime and manga areseriously overpriced in Ireland. You'll find most small volumes - Tokyo pop etc, retailing at 12-13 euro. This compared to the French price of ~7 euro Im told :/

I've picked up some nice stuff in Tower Records - dvds at 12 euro during sale etc..

Here in Finland Tokyopop's and VIZ's mangas cost in every store 12€. There is one shop where you can get Tpop's mangas with 10€, but their selection is quite small.

Do you know where you can get any Anime figures other than forbidden planet? That shop is too expensive and I don't really like it that much... And for that person talking about how much the manga are, I buy most of mine for about 11:30 each, tokyo pop ones. For some reason, Vu seem to be a bit more expensive.

Hmm well both Sub City and 3rd Place sell models though they are more of the comic book end. I'd really avoid buying that stuff in Ireland - order online will be much much cheaper!

All those titles are Viz, and Sub City won't/don't import Viz. Not for religious reasons, but the importing clampdown makes it too much of a hassle. Besides you should probably be able to get Dragonball in bookstores soon - I believe thats one of the initial deal run by Gollanz.

Well, I order most of my magna off the internet (I like having it as a book rather then downloading) but shipping & handling is very expenisive. I've gotten Chobits in the new Eason's in Dundrum, the magna is ten euro there, but the selection is tiny and very, very bad.

The best I have found for Shipping & Handling charges is United Publications (http://www.up1.co.uk). Their shipping overhead on manga tends to hover around the +10..15% of order value. Its not order value based (weight as usual), they have a pricing guide which I have found to be spot on (checking cc bills). Basically they add 50p onto Irish deliveries, and thats it.

Archonia (http://www.archonia.com) aren't bad either if you can keep the weight under 2KG (roughly 5-7 manga volumes): +13€ onto the order. Don't go over it, its not a linear scale and at 4KG delivery is ~30€. You will have to wait about twice as long for delivery. Packaging is very robust.

I find that ordering from these guys, I can get manga cheaper than at retail anywhere in ireland (Easons or Forbidden Planet, which are the cheapest). I am not saving much though.

Play.com (http://www.play.com) is cheapest of all with delivery (free) but their selection is more limited and they are based exclusively on local distributers (ADV Manga, Tokyopop and limited Dark Horse titles). Be prepared for ISBN searches to get what you want however.

    Honourable mentions:
The Other Realms (http://www.otherrealms.com) have a web shop too, they track stock (but not accurately) but their delivery rates are pretty good (and fast). If you are desperate for a hard to get title, look them up too. They came in bigtime for me with the 8th Gunsmith Cats volume (it felt like they managed to track down the very last copy in all of Ireland and England).

They have gotten a few anime items in in Tower Records just off Grafton street. They have wall scrolls, a few posters, plushies, a few t-shirts and bags, and DVDs. The wall scrolls are about 24 euro, plushies from 8-30 euro, as with the DVDS. Also, in Easons on O' Connel street they have gotten quite a large selection of Manga at 10.60. They have stuff from DNAngel, Gravitation, Shutter Box and some samurai stuff.
Well, I hope my information is usefull... In Tower Records the stuff is on the second level, at the back past all of the comic type stuff, like the Batman Manga and Kurt Cobain and Eminem comics (wtf?) and they sometimes don't have stuff in, while other times they have loads in...So check it out every few weeks.

You can get Manga in any HMV / Virgin / or Golden Discs that do DVD's. Look out for sales/deals. About two months back Golden Discs where sellin a load of stuff for around €7. I ended up spending €35 and bagging about six DVD's.

Last week I treated myself to Appleseed which I bought for €26 in HMV blanchardstown S.C.
