Oh I never saw this thread before, here is my most recent pic of Danbo (well Danbo's) from a few days ago. With all this rain I'm going back to the indoor old favorites. :)

Did most of you guys get the Mini Danbo or the big one.
Love all the shots on here really cool.
Whats the difference between the version 2 of the mini and the v1?

I was looking at this pack
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Revoltech-Danboard-Mini-Danbo-Amazon-Figure-Set-1-1-/270868825059?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f110a43e3#ht_5359wt_762

    then this?...

Big price difference are some plastic and some cardboard?
I saw shots with them near water and in snow surely destrying the carboard.

Would appreciate any of you fanatics ;) to get back to me!

    Cheers!,

It does, but while you wait, mix it up with different characters!

I bought 4 of the mini plastic guys but the seller didn't put the price on the box and didn't combine shipping so customs had a field day delaying them all. Three weeks from Japan to Ireland then a week and a half from Athlone to Dublin, I told them I'd collect the parcels from Athlone myself to further speed things up but no dice. I've given most of them away to friends already but I do think its money well spent because I collect a lot of anime and manga toys and Revoltech always have the best joints. As for the cardboard ones all they do is rip off people on sites like DeviantArt by printing their Danbo models and then charging for them.

Go for plastic because you will get a lot of more life out of it and there are a lot more options available in terms of posing and such. Try and make sure the seller puts the price on the parcel or customs will more than likely stop it, its typical really because I've come back from Tokyo with boxes of stuff before and customs didn't care. I guess just be aware of possible delays from customs and a charge of about €15 per Danbo. :)

Oh just a little something on other characters, Forbidden Planet on the Quays is the best place for getting something similar on the actual day with no wait. Tallon's little mushroom guy is part of a set they are doing at the moment for under €20 last time I looked, there were another 4 or 5 characters in the set.

Is it the photos, or the actual character you 'don't get'?

I know it's clearly a style you're using on the Danbo pictures, Lisa, but the titling feels a little unsubtle and the detached looking font and colour detracts from what are otherwise good compositions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 536 ✭✭✭lisatiffany

@Syferus - That's why I usually take a picture with and without Danbo so the font isn't always there, I back up all the RAW shots too just in case. Originally it was "Time Flies" because at the time a fly was on his head but I shopped it out, you can kind of make out where it was perched on the far right of his head. :)

It looks like a Pixar character.

I got one recently, and it is an odd little thing. So much character to it.

I needed some help today and Danbo was on hand.

I think it's the fascination with Danbo. Although I don't get the character much either. Is he just an amazon package with a life, originally from Japan?

@Effects - this might explain some things. :)

Danbo is a short word for "danboru", the Japanese word for corrugated cardboard.

Danbo, the robot out of cardboard boxes that is now popular subject of digital photography, is a character from a comedy manga series by Kiyohiko Azuma entitled Yotsuba&!, read as "Yotsuba to" which means "Yotsuba and".

Danbo first appeared in Chapter 28 - Yotsuba & Danbo of the said Japanese cartoon series where Yotsuba’s friend Ena tried to convince her that Miura’s costume out of cardboard boxes is a real robot that is powered by money inserted into the slot on the chest.

Yotsuba believes that the robot is real, and Ena refuses to let Miura crush her dreams by telling her the truth. It was Miura who named the cardboard robot Danbo.

Yotsuba&! depicts the everyday adventures of a young girl named Yotsuba as she learns about the world around her, guided by her father, the neighbors, and their friends. She is also initially ignorant about many things a child her age would be expected to know, among them are doorbells, escalators, air conditioners, and even playground swings. This naiveté is the premise of humorous stories where she learns about, and frequently misunderstands, everyday things.

Danbo is also known online as Danboard, Danboru, Danbooru and Cardbo, but according to JuYoun Lee, Senior Editor at Yen Press said that "Danbo" sounds cuter than "Cardbo".

Not mine but quite a clever and well put together shoot, and a good web site to show the how's it done stuff.

A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world
I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall.
