I'm going to Lanzarote the first week in august and am wondering if anyone would like to recommend anything to do in Puerto del Carmen.

I found a sight for Manta diving school and am interested in trying this. Has anyone tried manta diving school and would they recommend it?

    Any recommendations would be great.

Im going with my boyfriend and were 19 and 20 years old.
Along with water sports i am interested in shows, like animal shows and theme parks.

    Thanks

    Hiya :)
I've been to del carmen twice and i have to say its a beauitful resort. Loads to see and do, i would definatly recommend the Island tour, I think it was around €30-35 but definatly worth it. Its a days journey on a tour bus mostly, but it includes things such as, they bring you to volcano's/a volcano BBQ/wine tasting/national arts/local dinner in restauraunt and the best part of all...a camel ride! :p

I also went to a hilarious drag-show one night, it was really entertaining so i'd recommend that if your up for a laugh.

And you have GOT to visit the waterfront! Theres amazing restauraunts, bars, clubs, street entertainment.

Do the Catamaran trip (the adult one) they take you out on the boat for the day, give you lunch and beer or wine, bring you to a lovely secluded spot and there's jet skiing included in the price.. I think we paid around €55 each which wasn't bad at all..

Also +1 for the Island tour, I really enjoyed that.. I'd love to be going back this year.. I'm definately going back there again, love it :)

if you want to scuba dive go here... it is by far the best diving centre in lanzarote

http://www.safaridiving.com + its one of the only licensed dive centres on the island. most of them are operating illegally. plus they have oxegen available / boats etc.
its right on the playa chica beach between farionnes hotel and old town. with lovely little sheltered cove. best diving is on the reef out here.

i go there every january and to be honest its mainly for relax / scuba so i cant comment on the excursions.. did the catamaran one year was pretty good.

was over in april and there is a lot of places closed down / boarded up compared to previous years.....

bodenca's is a really nice polish restaurant just above the old town (also my favourite place to eat albiet a little more expensive).

rory gallagher from the revs plays over there most nights, used to be in buddys bar in old town but he has now moved to another bar further up the strip.. very good live music and athmosphere

if you like surfing you need to head across the island to caleta del farmara and hit up

http://www.surfschoolanzarote.com/ these guys are also brilliant. full day with lessons and rental and lunch is around 50euros. they will usually pick you up from your hotel and bring you across.

    hope this helps.

Out of curiousity, how do ye actual go about doing this kinda stuff?

Was there last year, and although I had no intention of doing much, when a few of us did go looking for something to do one day when bored, we couldn't find anything.

Is there some secret shop down a back alley that does all these tours and deals, that I don't know about? Heading back over this year, plan to drag the ould cameras around with me, and as such, would like to cover as much ground in the place as possible.

(Sorry if i derail your thread, OP :o )

    )

Little kiosks dotted around the resort.. there's one up near Tropical bar iirc, that's where we booked all our trips..

They're usually open til around 8 or 9pm which sounds like fairly normal business hours to us but, considering everything else stays open til the early hours over there, it's quite early..

It's been about 4 years since i was in PDC but plus 1 for the drag show, it was called titty trollop, just above the Cod Father chipper on the main sprip, a good night with chicken and chips in a basket and a savage show for about 25 notes a head. I tend to stay away from the scuba places on holiday. but if you have expierence go and have a chat with them and you'll soon know if they are the real deal. Other than that the usual rules apply.
    Enjoy

there are various travelshops in the town yes, you can also book online, i see this one doesn't include time for the camel ride so that would be a no but there are loads of other companies doing the same tour(s) http://www.lanzarote.com/excursions/grand-tour/

    Hi

There's a submarine that you can go on for €40 - it's near the dive school - really cool.

Then there's a place called Rancho Texas and they do a western night once or twice a week, you have to get tickets but it's good craic and really worth it. €30 pp, this covers bus to and from venue, entry to the show, meal and endless beer/wine for the night.

Went to the Casino one night - it's ok - if gambling is your thing. Mulligans Irish Bar on the strip have an excellent resident band called The Usual Suspects, check them out one night, but maybe not every night as they're pretty expensive! And there's a drag bar at the end of the strip near the fish and chip shop - that's great craic. The go karting near the airport is ace, but it's expensive.

    Great link!

Will be sure to do some mooching about this time.

Not mad to ride a camel, but they dstop to let you photograph them, so that's more than good enough for me!

    Hiya,
Me, my boyf, my best mate and her man are all going to Lanzarote this June, we're all aged between 19 - 21 and looking for bars and clubs to go to in the evening, we are staying at Don paco castilla and are based in Puerto Del Carmen, could anyone please tell us where to go and also how to get there?
We've never been and also wondering how much a taxi is roughly to get to the town centre, and wondering what there is to do during the day?

    Thankyouuu

Puerto Del Carmen is split into two sections - the old town and the "new"

The old - is full of charm, stereotypical spanish style, good restaurants with quality food (mostly) ...a few pubs (mainly Irish/English Bars)

The new - is full of resort style restaurants (and some good ones) ... some of the food is excellent , there's bars all along the "strip"

We (myself and girlfriend) were there in March - plenty to do, plenty to see, she wanted to sit out in the sun and I wanted to go off diving and do some underwater photos.

we didn't want the hussle and bussle of a lively resort so we stayed in fariones apartments (just in the old town ...but also near enough to the new if you fancied going pubbing/clubbing)

As for taxi's .... you may not need them but they are cheap.

Did I hear some say they enjoyed a drag show? We went to one in Titos on the main strip one night. Most painful experience of my life. A few random people and children from the audience singing bad karaoke, BAD BAD karaoke.

Drag act wasn't even slightly funny. We snuck out about 45 mins into the show.

    Avoid Titos like the plague!!

That was the worst bit of the holiday, best bit was this fab restaurant we went to by the harbour. FAB sea food, and unbelievably view.

Has anyone rented a car in Lanzarote?

Heading there on Sunday and despise bus tours so would like to rent a car for a day and get out and see the place myself.

    Cheers

    Really? When was that?

We loved the Drag Show in Titos, although that was in 2009, Sparkle-Lee was the name of the show and it was hilarious, but I remember them saying that the show was packing up and heading for Playa Del Ingles after the night we went to see them, so maybe it's a different act.

Did they have those stupid parrots come in halfway through the show? I had my picture taken with one on my shoulder and the bastard shat all down my back :( The guy who owned them just laughed and told me to go buy a lotto ticket cause it's a very lucky sign.

    Bleugh!!!!!

Been there twice, is reasonably good as a cheap holiday destination.

The second time over, we went to titty trollops drag show, it's easily the worst thing I've ever done on holidays. If getting stuffed onto a table with strangers, with barely enough elbow room, being served crap food and not being able to order a drink because the waitresses are few and dealing with a couple of hundred people is your idea of a good night then fire ahead :-) also was a load of obnoxious English louts shouting homophobic slurs at the performers which was really awkward... why did they go to a drag show, anyway in my opinion it is to be avoided.

The catamaran tour is ok, we did a submarine trip that I thought was pretty unique and the island tour is only ok, a bit too touristy, you make a stop at an aloe vera factory for no reason where they try to shill the stuff to you. And there will always be some bint who spends an hour deciding which lotion to get before you can all get back on the bus. Also a bit too long at the famous architects house. I think we rented a car the second time to go to the volcano again. Also the water park was pretty good though a bit dirty, there is one ride that is a bit like getting flushed down a toilet... think it's called UFO, that I thought was the best water park ride I've ever been on, so funny.

There is a nice walk along the coast from puerto del carmen to playa blanca if that's your thing. Takes maybe a bit more than an hour and then you can get a bus back, playa blanca is a lot nicer than puerto del carmen but a lot quieter.

Anyway, enjoy, it's a good spot to go to!
