    To embrace true multiculturalism and to further the cultural integration considering the modern, multi-cultural Ireland we live in today, this year, UNITAS-ISAC brings the experience of celebrating Festival of Lights to Dublin in spectacular fashion.

    Festival of Lights aka Diwali or Deepavali is the most popular festival in South-East Asia to signify the triumph of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and light over darkness. The light that empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds, which brings us closer to divinity.

    Diwali commemorates the return of King Rama from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas(Traditional lamps). During Diwali, all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends and perform traditional activities together.

    Throughout the day, performers will sprinkle the colour of festivity, signifying the festival of lights, in a show that will delight your senses and blow you away with :

    A Mesmerising Taal Fusion- a percussion ensemble by i4drum;

    A Sizzling blend of Bollywood Ballet Dance;

    Rocking Street Performances;

    Dazzling Fusion Dance show;

    A Gangetic Journey of a Joke- Stand up comedy hosted by Dean Scurry;

    A Musical Dance Drama - Indicating the Pulsating Spirit of Ceremony by Sujan & BAPS team;

    A showcase of Music & Visual Art Work - Stray Bird;

    Grand, Colourful Rangoli - The exquisite art to mark the auspicious occasion

    A Delightful Taste of India - Authentic cuisines from ethnically diverse Indian sub-continent;
    End the spectacular day - Sky-Fest to enchant the audience.

    Festival of Lights in Ireland is supported by Dublin City Council as part of the One City One People Campaign. As usual, festival is open to ALL and the main objective of this initiative is to use Festival of Lights celebration as a platform to further cultural integration in Ireland. Square One Theatre Group are putting on a production of The Great Gatsby in The Mermaid Theatre, Bray. 11th to 15th October 2011. 8pm.

    Directed by Ailín O'Donnell, adaptation by John Dwyer, from the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

    "I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. There was music from my neighbour's through the summer nights. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars." Jay Gatsby has built his life around the dream of regaining a former love. He has even located his lavish mansion on West Egg, Long Island across the bay from Daisy's house for the sole purpose of seeing the green light on the end of her dock. A faithfully romantic dramatisation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel and a stunning description of Jazz Age America - fast living, silent movies, jazz music and obscene wealth.

    Hi,

    I am running a live parody of the Jeremy Kyle show on the 29th March, in the Sugar club on leeson st. dublin.

    It's in aid of the Hospice, we have people writing it out but we are still looking for people to take part in the show, either on stage or int eh audience as family members, we want to keep it as laid back as possible, adn just want everyone to enjoy themselves so it'll be a lot of improv with one or 2 small rehearsels before hand, the show itself is the guts of an hour, but the time we are looking to fill is about 20 mins, so you're probably only going to be up there for 5-10 mins.

    Anyway if you're up for the craic, and interested in getting involved, please contact me (Rachel) on lifedrawingbs@gmail.com

    Cheers!!

    Heya, folks.

    So, I'm in this play, and it's awesome. It's an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', set in a post-apocalyptic 1950s (think Fallout 3) and we're trying to take it to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

    It's a project we all believe in really strongly, so we're putting in crazy effort and everything's in place. The only problem is that it's kind of expensive, and that's where everyone else comes in. We've set up this FundIt page where people can donate money to the show, in return for some sweet rewards.

    I promise you, this show is amazing, and really deserves the audience that the Fringe can give it. If you want to support genuinely great, grass-roots theater, or if you just want a kick-ass t-shirt, please make a donation; I will love you forever. Even 5 quid would be super helpful.

    If you can't afford it, it'd be really cool if you'd pass on word to anyone you think might be interested (I'll still love you forever). :) You're all awesome. Thanks so much.

    “Once a Catholic”, the Spring production by The Corran Players of Ballymote, Co. Sligo has one final show tonight in the Hawks’ Well Theatre, Sligo.

    once_a_catholic-460x537.png

    Once A Catholic, by Mary O’Malley and directed by Frank O’Mahoney is a touching and comic coming-of-age story of sex and nuns and rock 'n' roll. The play centres around the lives of three girls in the Convent of Our Lady of Fatima Grammar School in the 1950's during their O-Level year. The girls deal with the pressures of exams, boys and the sadistic nuns, whilst ensuring that they do not risk eternal damnation by committing too many mortal sins. But can they make it through the year with their sanity - and their regulation underwear - intact?

    The play will have one FINAL PERFORMANCE in the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo for one night only, tonight 16th March 2012 at 8:00 pm. Admission is €15, and tickets can be purchased online here or by phone to the Hawk’s Well Box Office at 071-916 1518, or at the door.

    There's a spanking brand new theatre in Dublin - Smock Alley has been very nicely kitted out, there's nice acoustics, seats are comfy enough, and the first show there is a very good one - A Doll House , a contemporary (& v. funny) take on Ibsen. Really well worth seeing.
    If you want to see it before Sat, use promo code GsaPan & tickets are a tenner instead of 15.
