forgot to mention a couple of shops in the original post and i don't think they have cropped up.
Duffys Galway, similar to Rorys small shop but i have always had good service when i went in there.
Ballina Angling Centre, opposite Ridge pool in Ballina, stock wise one of the better game shops, but some of the stuff does seem on the high side.
There is a tackle shop in Castlebar, can't remember its name its in an industrial estate and is a large shop with a very good selection of rods and clothing etc, there was even a boat in there (i am sure someone will recall its name) I was only in there once and i found the guy behind the counter friendly and helpful.

i was only over there once and that was a while ago but that store you mentioned in Castlebar i think is "island sports" on the moneen retail park- plenty of stock and a very large premises.

my own fav would have to be 'home, field and stream' in Enniskillen- a huge range and very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

There is a laundrette/ tackle shop in Cahersiveen on the ring of Kerry called Bubbles. He has recently expanded his fishing gear selection and the owner has a great knowledge of the local fishing spots. Plenty of frozen bait and terminal tackle as well. Its the first shop on the left hand side as you enter the town from the Killarney side.

Can you put online shops in this thread?

I've got some really good fly tying materials from an Irish online shop that a friend recommended and they were very good value and seem to have a huge range.

I'll post the link and if the mods don't think it's appropriate, they can always take it out (not trying to give you more work guys ;) but there are other links on this thread which made me think of this one).

    anyhow: www.irishflytying.com

The Fishing Tackle Shop based in Cookstown, Co.Tyrone, beside the M&S store. You can dump the wife off shopping, pick up any bits and bobs you need for fishing and still be back to her to make sure she picks up a bag of your favorite cans!

    Mallards

definitely one of the best around came across it by accident, have a wide selection of gear for every dicipline of angling & sell different baits.
Dan Lynch the owner is a gentleman & a wealth of knowledge, very reasonable prices too! had a problem with a rod i bought off him & i brought it back and he replaced it there & then. Caught a 13lb salmon that evening on said rod !!! :D

Rory's I have gone off, the staff with the exception of Paddy just dont seem interested.

Cleeres, I have to say I find them very helpful and always forthcoming with advice. I asked about access to a stretch of river for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get to it with out a long walk but I knew there had to be a place you could park nearer. The assistant didnt know but promised to check it out. Two days later he rang with the details.

Southside angling great staff but they can be pricey.

Anglers world they are pike men and in that line they are second to none.

Viking angling (Bray) lovely lads but they can be expensive €3.50 plus a fly.

Baumanns. Not for me They plain lied to my face in order to try and get me to buy something inferior rather than say they didnt have the item in stock they told me it had been discontinued and they had not been able to get stock for two years (the same item i bought a month previous for a friend). Swore I would never cross the door again and have not done so.

Tallaght rod and gun. The guy who owns this needs a personality transplant.

couldnt agree with you more that crowd in baumanns are a joke two seperate occasions gave them my number requesting items they hadnt got in stock and they told me i will ring you after lunch and never got the call, these where high priced items they must have plenty of money out there to turn down the buisness.
Had the same expirience in tallaght

Newish shop in Navan worth a mention called East Coast angling.
It's an excellent game shop and the lads know thier stuff.
Located next to Anglers World so a bit of competition knocks prices down which is always good for the consumer.

Also no mention of The Sports Den. Also in Navan, may not be the largest stockist of tackle but possibly one of the best outdoor shops I've come across.

Does anyone have recommendations for online shops that deliver to Ireland?

Why not try support Irish tackle shops. Competition in the Market has lowered prices recently to compete with online shops. Leaving yourself wide open for customs when buying from the likes of USA.

There's only really one decent tackle shop near me. I buy a lot of the smaller stuff there. But for stuff like rods they have limited selection and are quite expensive. I wouldn't be looking at getting stuff from the U.S.A. but there are some Euro/UK and even Irish shops that have online shops and deliver to Ireland. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for any of them.

I order flies off selectafly.com all the time. Very good service and value. Haven't bought large tackle items off any of the websites tho. A buddy did tho off Glasgow angling centre. He was very impressed with the service and value the first order but disappointed with the second. That's all I can tell you. Maybe a testament to the fact that it could be hit and miss with the online stores.

Venture Sports, a little further north and midlands is a super little tackle shop in Monaghan town and apart from pretty much all the tackle you could need they also do live bait, dead bait for piking, boots, waterproofs etc etc. Dick is the main man in there and can order in anything that they may not have in stock. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

I bought rods off John Norris & soniksports both on the net and based in the uk had no problem with them.

I am looking at a 10ft 7/8 wt greys grxi+ rod& reel with this crowd for next season
    http://www.carrilon.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=427&products_id=2620

it seems quite reasonable for that & they have a sale on some items at the moment.

    http://www.gumtree.ie/dublin/26/67236026.html

Havent checked it out yet, will have a look tomorrow. About time we had a tackle shop back around Glasnevin!

Mostly deal with Murphys and Hayes in Wexford town. Both are good. Went into the tackle and gun shop in stillorgan beside the shopping centre a few weeks back when I was up in dublin for the day. Looked good enough but the staff were a bunch of ignorant b******s. The c*** asked me to buy something or leave after I browsed the shop for about 3 minutes. I had intended on buying something small as I dont like to look around a shop without buying something. I gave the pr**k a piece of my mind and left and wont be going back again.
    'nuff said

Top gun Drogheda is a great place for all your tackle needs in Drogheda.
Great little shop and the owner is bang on!
He now supplies fox pike range and all deadbaits.
Well worth a pop in if fishing in the north east.;)

Well known match angler Joe Carley is now supplying bait in Wexford town. I plan to buy bait off him this weekend for a club competition

As this is your first post here I assume you are affiliated with the new site.. Where are you based? There seems to be no details of that on the site, or at least I cant find them. :o

    Thanks

If your in Dundalk theres pretty much 3 shops....

First one: the bicycle doctor. His selection is extremely limited. He mainly deals with bikes but does have a small section on fishing. Only really worth bothering with if your going to be passing right by his door and all you need is hooks or maybe some leader or whatever. But I have to say hes a sound guy. He knows a lot about the local fishing. It would be great to see him focus more on fishing and less on bikes.

Second: Would be the angling center. Hes relatively new in the grand scheme of things. Have to be brutally honest. The guy tends to be on the grumpy side if you dont know him..... His prices arent bad- though Ive yet to get a deal or discount on anything. He has a good selection of flies. Other than that I wouldnt really bother with him to be honest.

Lastly: Island fishing tackle. Have to say hes a very friendly guy, he knows what hes talking about and he usually gives you a good deal on whatever it is your getting. Some days it gets a bit hectic and you could be standing waiting..... Hes got a good over-all selection of stuff. Though he wouldnt have anything too specialised... so dont go there hoping to get yourself that new Dan Vice :D BTW: Slight OT but he also caters for hunting, so he carrys firearms, snares, decoys etc....
