Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    To what extent was German unification under Prussian leadership an inevitable outcome and the only solution to the German national question?


    Is this not a b*tch of a question? Can anyone help with sources practically every book in the library has been taken out with the last 2 weeks :mad:

    Journal articles are going to be a better bet if the books are checked out.

    That question's got trigger words like 'inevitable' and 'only' begging you to challenge whether they're an accurate description of German unification. The short answer is that 'inevitable' is almost a worthless statement in history :p

    Search for terms like Sonderweg, Bismarck, Franco-Prussian War and German Unification 1871 in JSTOR and other databases. It should sort you.

    and look at carefully at Austria ;) .
