So, as the title hints, I want to become a blaster. Problem is I have NO idea how to go about this. How do people get into demolitions? I can't seem to find any masters programmes advertised on the internet for explosives and demolitions so i'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction (currently studying structural engineering)

Have a look at the website for the International Society of Explosives Engineers, which has details on training etc. and a Career Center.

One of the main companies in the area is Controlled Demolition Inc. who tend to get the big jobs that end up on the Discovery Channel. They're a small family company, and don't have a "careers" link on their home page. I imagine they're inundated with queries from young men with the urge to blow s**t up ..! :pac:

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

im a mining engineer. i design blasts. (unfortunately no grand demolition jobs)

IIE or UIE in ireland are the main people in ireland that do courses for blasting. to get your shot firers ticket though you need field time.

to get field time working in ireland the busiest blasters are those at Tara mines in Navan and those at Lisheen Mine near Thurles.

I remember correctly CDI or similair in england do have women shotfirers.

Most if not all controlled blow downs in Ireland are by the UK demo bomb crews. Its a real small world is the demolition explosives business.

Ive worked with women shotfirers in Australia. theyre cool. unlike some of the blokes who are like prima donnas.

I reckon Australia would be the quickest place to get your shotfirers ticket. then probably get in with the big demolition mobs in UK or Ireland. I think most of the irish demolition mobs that advertise explosive demolition subcontract the explosives bit out to the specialists in the UK.

one website i like is www.implosionworld.com

i too would like to get into the demolition game.

Thanks! That's very useful. I had actually thought of mining on an entirely different tangent of interest... Looks like that will require more investigation :)
