Watch for 60th Birthday need ideas

hi guys, my father turns 60 in a few weeks and im looking for ideas for a watch to get him , something of a classic design / plain , nothing modern looking , preferably a light watch not a big bulky one . budget would be around €700

any ideas im lost ????

how about a pocket watch, you can buy a really classy looking one for around 100 euros plus, with roman numerals and a lot of them have a clear section so you can see the clock works, just an idea, they look like they cost a lot more than they do, i have one and people comment on it every time i pull it out, i got a "rotary" brand one for 100 euro's a few years ago, i know a place in Temple Bar that has a few nice ones if your interested it's called John J. Cooke and co. there at 14 Fownes St Upper.

thanks lads that omega seamaster is lovely what kind of money would that finish at do you think , is it not riskey buying watches on the net a lot of replicas around i would have thought ???

that meistersinger is beautiful aswell id like that for myself but i dont think he would like the single hand

pocket watch is out im afraid , he recently broke his wristwatch so needs a replacement anyway

can you recommend anything with a metal strap as opposed to leather ???

Do you want a mechanical or quartz movement, as in your price range, that will make a big difference?

Assuming you are thinking of mechanical what about Frederique Constant.
Here is one within budget

If you were looking for bracelet then maybe Tissot, here is a COSC Tissot with bracelet within budget (almost)

Without the COSC you can stay well within budget.

EDIT: In case you don't know COSC stands for Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres and is a certification of swiss watch movements that the particular movement is operating within -4/+6s per day in a number of different positions.

I was just talking with my mother and she said he would like a rectangular face watch

Thanks for the input lads went into town today and bought a Longines Conquest Automatic . Actually the one foxyboxer suggested , beautiful watch and got a very nice discount and it personally engraved,

Spending up to 200 quid you'd be well off looking at a Seiko, some lovely classic looking watches that are great value.
