I guess it would depend on the age group.

Tiny Dancer is a great sing along song if people know it.

The Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy, simple to play which is a good thing when you are drunk, and everyone loves screaming out the chorus.

Maybe N17 by the Saw Doctors, I guess depending on the crowd.

Tribute - Tenacious D is always a good laugh.

No Woman, No Cry/ One Love - Bob Marley.

Everyone of these are pretty perfect.

    C - G - Am - F

Or if the key is too hard to sing, Capo it anywhere or

    D - A - Bm - G or
    G - D - Em - C are the easiest alternatives.

    Oh, same with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdxkVQy7QLM&feature=related

Then Pork and beans - Weezer
All along the watchtower - dylan/hendrix
    Whiskey in the jar
I will follow you into the dark - death cab for cutie
    Heartbeats - jose gonzalez
Hey ya (acoustic version... youtube it!)
And my person favourite is Hero - Enrique Eglaisias. Although if you're singing that you have to get down on one knee and deliver it with so much passion and angst, that you're bound to get punched in the face

If I heard anyone playing any of the songs mentioned in the first six posts (and most of the rest), I'd want to smash that guitar across their skull and shove up their h*le.

    But that's just me, innit.

    Harsh but fair.

"Wish you were here" always gets them going for me, after that they putty in your hands, Pinball Wizard works too, for one verse anyway then the words get thin on the ground.

Note how he never replied to my question, probably because he knows no one in their right mind would want to see him **** the only LCD Soundsystem song he knows in the corner of the kitchen.

Bootsy strikes me as the definition of the affected Dublin scenster that you see with the Nike Hi-Tops and the skinny jeans and the affected pout, who is soooo achingly cool. Having this guy at your party is akin to finding a lump on your balls.

Greenday operates well in that sphere too.
When You were Young by The Killers is good as well.

    Haha Nice!! *Virtual Hi-Five* ;)

Does anyone know of a song called "Down In The City". I think its by "Scullion"...but it's impossible to find chords online...

I don't know what the rules are regarding me posting a link to the song (because it's not on youtube), but if you Google it, it's the very first link that comes up in the search....

    Verse

    D - Em (or E)

    Chorus

    Fm G D

You could flute around with chords in the vicinity of those and maybe you'd strike it lucky. Some of the better lads on here if they heard it would be able to tell you for definite.

There is a middle eight in there as well. Am D I think.

    Cool, thanks! Really appreciate that!

Heard it a few weeks ago in a pub and I think the guy dropped the tuning to D (I'm a beginner Guitar player so I only vaguely understand that :P)

All the same its a great song to play at a party!

Those chords would be normal tuning.

Look I could be wrong but I know for a fact that song is a doddle to play save for maybe one or two bits.

I'd also say it was open D tuning as opposed Drop D the lad tuned to. I could be wrong I am no guitar guru but it is a folk song and open D tuning is more appropriate to folk songs.

Drop d tends to be the preserve of metal bands.

But why should I have to make a new thread when its a post already in relation to this topic? The song I'm looking for is one I want to play at a party. Plus it's a song that I'd recommend to the OP for playing at a party. And what harm if I get a little help in finding the chords for it when I cant find them myself?

Cheers again Orlando. Nice to see there's some decent posters out there without an attitude :D

Anyway, back to the topic I suppose

Chris Daughtry's Acoustic Version on Poker Face is another good one.

Yeah, sometimes I like threads to flow in different ways, I'd never heard that song and I took a listen there and I'd happily add it to the repetoire of 'songs to play to indifferent friends', so it's kinda within the parameters..Kinda :)

Speaking of which anything you'd like play at a party that the great unwashed probably would not have heard.

    Mine is this.

Obviously not as good. Christy covering Richard Thompson.

Incidentally check out a Richard Thompson song, Vincent Black Lightening 1952.
