Whats a decent championship or league 1 team to manage? One that has room for expansion etc

League 1-Southampton, great facilities, good first team squad Lallana,Lambert, and an excellent youth team setup, Luke Shaw. Have a generous chairman too.

I played a game with these in FM 2011, was great craic won the premiership by 2015 and was thoroughly enjoyable

League 1- Huddersfield Town- Have good facilities for league 1, have a good stadium 25,000 capacity, a good chairman who will support you, have a few good young players with good potential.

Play in Italy for a challenge. Inter and AC NEVER weaken and the likes of Juventus, Lazio, AS Roma, Sampadoria, Udinese, Napoli all go through phases of being great. Can be tough at times.

Think I'm gonna give up my game now, seems to be too many stupid glitches coming into the game, especially with the home grown players for the Champions League.

Also, the 2023/24 season wasn't a great one. Although I did win the Italian Super Cup and the Club World Cup, I got knocked out of the Champions League by a poor Porto side and knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Juve in the 1/4s. I'm also 4th in Serie A but have 4 games remaining.

Dying for the League of Ireland update so I can start FM12 now tbh!

Put in a summer 2011 transfer update, gonna start with Southhampton I think, or maybe Leeds

Got charlton to the prem from league 1
Won the CC so had EL and finished 8th in the prem in our debut season.
Negotiated my contract made a balls of it and only done it for a month instead of year. gutted.
    Unemployed now

Took over Lausanne-Sports in Switzerland, got sacked by February, I was waiting for the summer to come so I could shift off all the players that were out of contract and replace them with better cheaper options. I'm a bit of a Trapattoni in the sense, I have systems, players suit my systems, not the other way around.

I'm exactly the same. I stick to my tactics, regardless of the team I'm at. Generally, I can accommodate most players in it but I'm not afraid to get rid of a player who isn't going to play and is likely to have a sulk if he's not playing.

I'm just starting my third season with Stuttgart. First season went well. The squad was good but ageing so I dismantled it somewhat and brought in younger players. We went from 43 points the year before to 74, a record for Stuttgart. In six of the seven seasons since the game started, it would have been enough to win the title, however, for us, it was only good enough for fourth. :( We finished nine points off Wolfsburg at the top. We could have made it into the CL. We were away to Leverkusen, who were two points ahead of us, on the final day but we got thrashed 6-1, our goal coming when it was already 4-0. :(

So, the next season, we got knocked out of the German Cup at home to Freiburg and struggled past Austria Wien in the Europa League. Thought it would be a tough season but it wasn't. :D Won the title at a canter with 83 points, 12 points clear of Bayern.

Won all six group matches in the EL and beat Fenerbahce home and away but got tonked 10-1 by Man U in the next round. We'd lost the first leg 2-1 at home so I played a second string team in the away leg so my first team could rest ahead of a tricky away league game. We won that match so I'm happy, though got a lot of stick in the post-match conference. 8-0 was a new record defeat.

Retained the title but lost it in the third season to Bayern. Screenshot of the table, take a look at Duisburg. Their win came in the 32nd week, they'd already been relegated. We beat them 8-1 at home and 6-1 away. I can only imagine what scores the other teams got against them. Amazingly, they haven't sacked their manager. 18th was their season prediction and the board don't seem too upset about it. Madness.

Dramatic fall of Bremen, the goal difference is staggering, understand a shock relegation but they just look piss. That Duisburg team are prob one of the worst teams I've seen perform in the game. In this years version, Saturn Oblast were absolutely shocking before the update removed them from Russian League, CSKA beat them 14-0 away.
Strange thing in my games, the Bundesliga is so low scoring, teams struggle to over 70 goals whereas yours looks like a goalfest

That's actually Werder's second relegation in three seasons. They only got 60-something points in the Second Division last year. They've been on a steady slide for years in the game.

The league is really competitive. Dortmund and Leverkusen both have strong squads. Wolfsburg (4-0, iirc) and Hoffenheim (6-1) both gave me thumpings this season.

I don't know what it is but the goals in this particular game are a bit surreal. A few players have ridiculous records. The top scorer was an 18-year-old regen at Schalke who got 32 in 25, or something. Practically every team had someone who scored at least 20 league goals. My top scorer had 22 and he's only 3 and a half stars. My next top scorer got 14 in 18 and he's only 3 stars. Even Rostock's top scorer got something like 24 in 28.

It's something you dream about in real life but feels a bit weird in a game.

What's your team currently like? You could always redirect some of that money to wages and give your top players new contracts.

Restarted a game last night as Man U, sold most of my fringe players (O'shea, fletcher, gibson, park et al) and raised about 70 million in transfers plus 17.5m budget cos i said i'd win the league...

slap in a bid for Bale and sneijder...both bids rejected ask board to assist and they refuse, saying they are not within our range....

    Manage to get
    benzema 8m cash deal...happy days
Romeu from Barca for 1.1..bit of a punt
alex sanchez 7.5 plus addons of 20 million

have a budget remaining of 1million...how the flip i only had that much!!!!

rebid on bale and rejected.... ask board and they say we'll get it done, Gill gets him for 36.5million

    no budget left....

Then i'm offered Lucas from sao paulo...get the deal for 1m plus 7.5 add on's

then get offered another quality young player (name escapes me, think its pastore) for 2.5 plus addons and looks like going to get that done too...then board rejects and says he's not good enough!!!!

    all a bit crazy......

Started up my game today, and the width of the game has reduced greatly. You know them 2 black thick lines like on a widescreen tv? Anyone know how to change it back?

For some reason the "show player attribute changes" button won't stay ticked, it unticks when I move to another screen, anyone had this problem?

Anyone got good tactics for this? I just find FM so hard anymore. I dont want to have to tinker with tactics before every match :(

Usually I buy players to suit my preferred tactics, 442 with wingers, but the team I'm managing now is blessed with midfield talent because of some super bargains I couldnt pass up.

I'm playing as Newcastle and have: Tiote, Cabaye, Toulalan, Ben Afa, Ozil, Riquelma, Jonas. They are my best players too and I need to change my system to fit them in... any suggestions?

Right, finally retiring the Pro Vercelli save game. I just finished the 2025/26 season, which was the best yet. I won the Italian Super Cup, the European Super Cup, the International Club World Cup, the Italian Cup, Serie A, UEFA Champions League and just now I won the 2026 World Cup with Spain.
    Italian Super Cup

    UEFA Champions League Final

    and then with Span

    The World Cup Final

    fm7of7.jpg

Best season ever, and the game is getting slower and there's too many weird glitches now, so definitely time to move onto FM12 I'd imagine!!

    So, in summary...

    Pro Vercelli (2010 - 2026): Serie C2/A - 2011, Italian C2 Super Cup - 2011, Serie B - 2014, Italian Cup - 2020, 2021, 2022, 2025 and 2026, Serie A - 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2024/25 and 2025/25, Italian Super Cup - 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026, UEFA Champions League - 2023, 2025 and 2026, European Super Cup - 2025, Club World Clup Cup - 2023 and 2025

    Republic of Ireland (2020 - 2022): World Cup - Runner Up - 2022

    Spain (2024 - 2026): World Cup - Winner - 2026

What's the best way to ensure young players reach their full potential? Has it changed from previous games? With Dortmund I'd a great young team, good coaches and facilities and gave them all loads of first team football but they didn't develop like they should.

I've the same problem in another save with Liverpool. For example take Seb Coates. At the start of the season he had the potential to be 4 stars and I played him in nearly 50 games (nearly all starts) and have a 4.5 star defense coach yet he's now got the potential to be 3.5 stars, the same is happening to other players like Jack Robinson, Suso, Yaya Sanogo etc.

It's very frustrating when you invest so much time in young players and they turn out ****e. So what's the best way of developing young players?

Make sure coaching categories is at least 4.5 star across the board

Make sure your facilities are upgraded until they cant be upgraded anymore.

I find that custom schedules tailored towards for positions/roles/duties work far better than the generic ones. e.g. if you play with attacking full backs, create a schedule that has an emphasis on the key attributes for an attacking full back. Alot of people dont bother creating custom schedules, its worth the time to do them and save them for other saves.

When a 4 star player suddenly drops to 3.5 or 3 star there is a number of possibilities for this but the main ones are that your club is probably after winning something and your reputation in the football world has gone up. Expectations have increased and your coaches are now rating these players against these expectations. Coates was a 4 star for an underachieving Liverpool side but when the bar is raises, your coaches basically think that you could get better players.

Your coaches or scouts could be wrong in their assessment of player X and hype them too much. It could also be that 4 star rating as a youngster could drop to a 3.5 if you improve the quality of your squad or if the league improves. Don't put too much importance in coaches ratings of a player. Plenty of playing time and good coaches doing good training routines in good facilities will improve youngsters immensely.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Coach ratings are in relation to the rest of your team as well as the rest of the division. Could have been 4 stars last season, but other teams have gotten better players and you probably did too so his rating was re-evaluated and came out lower. Doesnt mean he has gotten worse, just that better players have been introduced.

    Odd request here...

Does anyone have a FM11 CD Key they never registered with Steam that they would be willing to part with? I had a decent game going on it but haven't played in well over a year and want to get back into it. Never registered it with steam before so I need a fresh key as I no longer have mine.

Have DOW2 (Steam Giftable) and Space Marine (CD Key) I'd be willing to trade for it!

    Cheers

You can easily "obtain" one via other methods.

I know but I want to use it on Steam and don't fancy possibly getting my account with all my games banned for using a Keygen.
