Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Celbridge - nice place to live?

    Hi all,

    My partner and I are looking around at different areas to buy a new house right now and were wondering what the Celbridge area is like. What are the people like and how do they treat outsiders(we're from dublin/southside)?

    What are local pubs/amenities? Are there a lot of scumbags in the area? Is it a 'nice' place to live, any feedback would be appreciated :)

    I've never been there but haven't heard anything bad about it. The area is growing strongly so there is likely to be pressure on schools, shop, doctors, etc.

    Access to the city isn't great, but you can get the Arrow to Heuston and Luas into town. There is a new interchange connecting the far side of the town to the M/N4 and Intel.

    The best way to find out what somewhere is like is to drive through it at 10pm on a Friday night.

    There are Dublin Bus and Mortons bus services in the mornings... get into town in around the hour mark in the mornings.. traffic used to be terrible in the village, but the new interchange has got rid of most of that (N4 is still terrible tho!).
    I find its a grand place to live, pubs are decent, few restaurants as well, small gym in the Mill, Tescos .. as far as general scumbags goes it'd have the same if not a slightly lower level than any other satellite town.. (i.e. theres the odd crapper estates).

    You won't see much in Celbridge on a Friday night anyway.. everyones in the pub ;) plus theres no nightclub in the village itself (the Setanta is out on the Clane road)... so you don't get the usual drunken **** that Maynooth or Leixlip get at the weekends.

    Celbridge is pretty much a growing town.

    Amenities arent fantastic, but with the new jump in building etc. they are set to improve.

    Bus routes: 67/67A , Mortons
    there is a feeder bus to Hazelhatch arrow station. >> Heuston

    Maynooth is just down the road Arrow from Maynooth >> Connolly
    buses to maynooth : 67A / 66

    Pubs:
    celbridge house. decent with thai restaurant. trad music every tuesday, band fri/sat
    castletown inn. quiet out front, music bar in back. restaurant upstairs
    village inn: lively enough, dj fri/sat night. Indian restaurant in back.
    mucky duck: nice pub, great restaurant (nice food, good price part of main pub).
    abbey lodge: small and busy, restaurant upstairs.

    restaurants/takeaway:
    3x chinese (ok, not great) takeaway
    1x chinese restaurant, nice enough
    1x italian (restaurant + takeaway) quite nice
    1xitalian / european (nice but expensive)

    Amenities:
    Tesco , xtravision, 2 butchers, 1 it training, 1 it providers , numerous corner type shops, nothing 24hour though.

    The Mill has a social centre with classes in karate, tae kwon do, music, etc
    Salesian college (boys school) night classes.
    St. wolstans girls school
    Also a mixed primary school
    There is a swimming pool in St. Raphaels that holds public sessions.

    People in celbridge are generally friendly but, as anywhere, you get a mix.
    Scobies, there are some, only a handful cause any bother, the usual stuff. very little serious crime and very little trouble.

    - was looking at moving there a couple of years ago. Its a decent enough area for the most part. Heavier scum density in Castletown than in rest of town. Would choose over the likes of Lucan any day of the week. As for the question about how they treat Dublin people, you're being paranoid. Any town within 20 miles of Dublin is full of Dubs these days, so you won't have the Bull McCabe after you :D
