Im on the pirate bay right now.! Eircom's futile attempts to stop people from going there are hilarious they have no clue what they are doing.!

Im changing ISP because of this. I do not pay eircom for a filtered version of the internet, i want every bit of the internet.!! Not just the sites them elitist ***** think i should have.!!

And im going to tell them exactly that.!! And i hope many of you will take a stand also.!

Sad thing is if you move to the vast majority of ADSL providers your still paying eircom PSTN line rental and eircom will still be the wholesale supplier as they supply the bit-stream product used by BT, Vdafone, UTV, Perlico, Digiweb etc etc on ADSL.

Just to double check, is there anyone, anyone at all here on Eircom that CAN'T access The Pirate Bay in some way?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 6,817 ✭✭✭jenizzle

I can access it through a proxy, and can download no problem. I actually got something downloaded at warp-speed yesterday while the DNS issue was happening

have not opened it since i'm worried about the 3 strike policy, or rather my lil brother's warning me off not to use torrents...tried dl'ing from other sites, but weird coz there's not a single tracker working...did eircom blocked not only tpb but all torrent trackers as well:confused:

Sad to say this, but for us eircom users, torrents are dead...rapidshare and 4shared for NOW.....for proxy users out there, can you help us how do you do it? Coz personally i hate using proxies, they're so slow, IMOO...........

I'm on eircom, downloading several torrents at the moment good speeds. ALL trackers working including thepiratebay. Not exactly dead. I'll worry about the three strikes rule when i get my first strike from eircom, however i'm using a proxy torrent application which means no third party can report my IP address to eircom. Yay.

Is there a "3 strikes and you're out" policy where downloading from the PB is concerned now?
I thought the 3 strikes policy applied only to music downloading regardless of the torrent site.

The 3 strikes crap only applies if they contact you regarding downloading based on them being contacted by the media companies. Going to PB - the site - doesn't count - that's not an offense. Equally bypassing Eircons 'block' is not an offense. tbh anything so easy to bypass can't be regarded as an offense anyway - unless you regard the half-arsed attempt at blocking it offensive to intelligence :D

I can't wait for someone to be blocked by Eircom on their 3 strike policy.

It'll be very interesting to see what the user does, as I'm sure most subscribers signed contracts pre-Pirate Bay block, so I'm waiting for someone to sue, saying they never agreed to a contract, because Eircom have more or less forced this on their users without notifying most of them.

There's a lot of case law to suggest Eircom are being oppressive, forcing a unilateral change in contract.

yeah, you're right, I can bypass tpb behind this proxy program called "Your Freedom", an it's amazingly fast, considering I'm connected right next.....

anyway, still got a problem with torrents...no peers, no seeds even there's like 100 seeds says on tpb.... It seems to me the trackers aren't working. I dunno what I'm doing wrong, but I also set utorrent's configs to proxy....jay, what "proxy torrent application" are you exactly using, just wondering if you don't mind:confused::pac:

As far as I can see you don't need to download via a proxy or make any adjustments in utorrent. I've found the trackers work fine without making any changes. You just need a means(a proxy etc) to access the website.

It says nothing about a three strike policy on this issue on the Eircom page on REMOVED. I may be wrong but as far as I can see the following means that Eircom will not be monitoring users downloads in relation to the block :
eircom would like to reassure customers that:

eircom will not monitor customer’s activities at any stage, nor will it place any monitoring equipment or software on its network in order to facilitate this block.

eircom are not, and will not, monitor users, apart from blocking access to Piratebay. However, IRMA are monitoring illegal Internet downloads, and they will forward details of copyright infringers to eircom, and eircom will then warn those users. This is a separate issue to the Piratebay block, and essentially nothing to do with them. This agreement, which was formed between eircom and IRMA several months back, is not effected or impacted by happenings at Piratebay.

    Hi Guys,

If you want to get to REMOVED

    Eircom CANT STOP YOU.

    Its simple:

    Use mozilla firefox.
Go to the following link and download the windows bundle:
    http://www.torproject.org/easy-download.html.en
Set this up on your computer and you will be using the TOR network which helps you defend against any form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy.

    Enjoy ;)

Why would anybody want to use TPB anyway, its rubbish

Do yourselves a favour and get onto a private tracker like Torrentleech or IPTorrents.......

Yes, indeed they have blocked TPB but it is a pointless move since any webproxy will bypass it...

so all you gotta do is type 'webproxies' into google and the enter the TPB web address thepiratebay.org

It's no longer a free country unfortunately.

Also moving to BT is not going to solve the problem. BT have offloaded all of their residential customers to Vodafone and their T+Cs explicitly state that you cannot use P2P on their network.

Well who can u move to then? if not BT? who other dsl line can u get?

I cant believe this. its not the actual site, its the point of being blocked.

For f sake..there is SO much porn out there and other crazy and freeky sites..and they block a this??

    against our constitutional rights.

Back to the point, who can i move to now? And by F i will.

    m.

ps: we irish are a shower of gob ****es, if we let this happen. The Gov are walking all over us. Now property tax ?
punish the working and the poor again...

The constitution does not guarantee access to the Piratebay

eircom is the government now? Keep the misinformed pseudo-politics to The Cuckoo's Nest, or some other suitable forum.

    after about 5 mins online...

i found a way to unblock ANYsite..as u should to.

Like i said , its not the sites they are blocking, its the point. Like many others i did not know what pirate bay was until it was in the papers!

Anyway. I dont use that site. But if u "did" want to, its so easy. I dont condone downloading music or whatever. Im more into online radio, which is great! no ads!

But my point is..try search google for some nasty stuff and my GOD you get some serious stuff.

But thats our choice as a individuals.

    Eircom should not block anything.

    Free country.

When you download torrents every peer you're connected to can see your IP address and you can see all of theirs. IRMA/Sony/etc connect to the torrents themselves and record all IPs that they download from (downloading isn't illegal per se - uploading is). From your public IP address they can find out your ISP. They then mail your ISP with the IP details, the file details and the exact date and time. They don't know who you are - all they have is the IP that you were using at that particular time. Your ISP can then match that up to your account and send you a warning.

Well thats mainly for Tibet and Free Tibet Groups they block them in China but China see nothing Wrong with Copy Right Thief thats why when that New Virus came out last Christmas "Cant think of its Name" Most of the worst off people were from China As they all have Copy Win Xp so they couldnt Update their PCs.

I think Eircom are breaking the Law with this one. look at all the Kiddie Porn out their sure why dont they block them or evening Block frecking Youtube sure thats Copy Right Thief next they be telling us the Justin TV would be next on their list Well if i had Eircom as my ISP ill move and that would show them not to Mess with the P2P network Groups.... Sure if Smart and the rest of the ISP move to the ban, Ill just go back to the good old days of downing loading...

I.E. Download Demo off the Site and Search the Whole Web for a Crack App. After 24 different Apps once shell finally Work and Their you have it your free Photoshop or Nortons...

You can never beat the crackers.....

Well I just cancelled my service with Eircom entirely and got the line disconnected, told them I fundamentally disagree with censorship and that I won't stand for it, and that I'd switch to another provider. :)

To be fair the guy that I talked to on the phone was actually quite nice and totally agreed with me, even as good as told me to use another site to find torrents from. It was quite obvious that I was one of many cancelling for the same reason.

it would be interesting to see a chart of their customer base over the last few months.

i'm guessing someone will be on their hands and knees by now drawing the line down that low. :D
