    Title: The X Files

Cast: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis.

    Genre: Drama, Horror, Thriller, Sci-Fi

Description: I was 12 or 13 when this started and kept up with every episode until the end and the two feature films. This was pretty much the sci-fi show of the 90s, if not the show of that time. Duchovny (Mulder) and Anderson (Scully) had real chemistry and the quality of the episodes was such that, even in the early years, it had a quality more akin to a feature film budget. Scully is undoubtedly an example of a strong female TV character - engaging, well-written and highly intelligent. What really stood out, though, was the writing. Granted, eventually it did get buried under the weight of its own convoluted continuity, but for a good few years it was very good. I loved the humour and some of the excellent dialogue and story lines the show had. Mytharc or standalone? I'm fond of both, save for when the mytharc went arseways. Supernatural is probably its closest natural successor and has clearly learned from The X Files as has Fringe, which though decent, doesn't quite hit the mark as much as is said, imo.

Setup? Two FBI agents, operating outside of the Bureau's mainstream, investigate strange events, paranormal activity and the downright weird. Can they do so without interference and can they find the truth? Mulder, the believer, Scully the scientist whose role is to bring a skeptical perspective to his work. The Truth Is Out There.

Fanbase? Well, it can be a little weird, and some of the shippers are a little nuts and narrow-minded.

    house_cards_125.jpg

Cast: Ian Richardson, Diane Fletcher, Susannah Harker.

    Genre: Political drama

Description: Meet Francis Urquhart, Chip Whip of the governing Tory party. A sharp operator on many levels, intelligent, cunning, wonderfully manipulative and a no BS kind of guy.

This is perhaps quite apt for the times we're in now, given the NOTW revelations and the suggested connections with 10 Downing St.

Or at least, you might very well think that, I couldn't possibly comment. ;)
