[Motors] Rear Window Smashed

Posted by MadMardegan:

Just came out of work and walked across to my car only to find that the back window had been smashed.
Called the Gardai (there was nothing taken from the car) and they came and took my details. They told me to ring the station in the morning to get the PULSE I.D number for my insurance. I took pictures of the damage (bad lighting because it's at night) but have a record of everything.
Drove home and covered up the back window incase it rains.
I just have to wait till 8am so I can my insurance company.

I have absolutely no idea about insurance whatsoever, so my question is this: Will my insurance cover this and will this affect my insurance premium in any way?
I have a Full Comprehensive policy with FBD for the last two years and I'm due to renew it again in 3 weeks. I have 2 years no claims. On my Motor Vehicle Imsurance Schedule (got it with my Cert) it says "Excess Applicable €350"... But to be honest I don't even know what that means.
How much does it cost to get a rear window on a 02 Mondeo fixed? Would I be better off paying out of pocket?

Thanks

[GAA] Young players to look out for in Championship 2013

Posted by Fiery biscuits:

What young players will announce themsleves on the scene and shine in this years championship? Some players have already caught the eye in the National League, how many of them will continue their impressive performances and will there be any new stars that are not household names yet? Here`s a few I think will show their talent...

Jack Mc Caffery (Dublin): Had a fantastic league campaign and I expect him to push on in the championship. Incredible pace and energy and well able to take a score too.

Ryan Mc Hugh (Donegal): Comes from good stock and is the type of player that suits Donegal style in that like his brother, he can run for miles.

Paul Mannion (Dublin): Dont need to say too much here as people are probably very aware of his impressive performances but will he sustain them in the summer. Will teams focus on stopping that left foot and force him onto his weaker foot?

Cormac Costello (Dublin): Difficult to know whether he can break into an impressive forward line but this boy is a serious talent. Might be a year too early for him.

Mickey Newman (Meath): This guy has bags of ability. He is big, strong and mobile and very consistant from frees. Had a good national league campaign.

Ciaran Byrne (Louth): Has been sought after by AFL teams for a few years now and may still make the move in the near future. Seen this guy in action on numerous occasions and he is very impressive. He is quick, slippery and great off both feet.

Niall Morgan (Tyrone): Don`t conceed free kicks against Tyrone from anywhere in your half. Stephen Cluxton the 2nd. I am not sure how good he is between the sticks however.

Shane Walsh (Galway): Haven`t seen too much of this guy but from what I saw he looks a natural talent. Will be interesting to see how he (and his U-21 teamates) makes　the step up to senior level

Sean Hurley (Kildare): Big strong powerful mid-fielder from Kildare. Looked impressive in their U-21 campaign.

Niall Kelly (Kildare): As above, looked impressive in the U-21 campaign. Great passer of a ball and looks to be a natural playmaker. His small frame may hinder him in the heat of battle of championship football.

Jack Brady (Cavan): Heard his name mentioned a bit but don`t know too much about him. Will be interesting to see him in action.

Tipperary underage players: Will any of the Tipperary youngsters from the recent successful underage teams make a name for themselves on the big stage and help push Tipperary forward?

Ciaron O`Hanlon (Armagh): Again, don`t know too much about him but any 18 year old getting handed a debut in an opening round championship game must be handy enough.

Any others: I`m sure there are a few young guns I have left out, I`d be interested to hear about them. Its always refreshing seeing new players breaking through.

Hurling: I am not totally up to speed on young hurlers who may be making breakthroughs but hurling folk, please enlighten us!! One of whom I have seen is Lester Ryan from Kilkenny and despite playing in a team of some men who are semi-gods of hurling, he has not looked out of place at all- far from it!

I`m living abroad and feeling slightly homesick now that championship time is beginning. Don`t have the smell of fresh grass cut and sounds from club and county grounds, I miss them. Also miss the chats and conversations about the championship, hence I started this thread.

I was thinking about buying myself AGM M16A1 VN, its a very nice looking rifle and the price of it is just about what I can afford.

I was having a look at one today and it seemed sturdy enough. Can anyone give me a review on this gun. How reliable is it, how is the accuracy and the range and does it have a good hop up system?

I know this gun is suppose to be a replica of the Nam A1 but really isn't but I don't really care about that anyway!

Is it also possible to mount equipment like grip handles, flash hiders onto this gun?

Any info on this rifle is greatly welcome! Cheers

Posted by musicmaster:

Hi there,

Apologies if I've posted in the wrong area - hoping to pick someone's brains on an issue I have (obviously not supplementing professional advice from my own dentist, etc.) but I have a fairly urgent situation.

Essentially, I'm currently undergoing root canal through a 2 year old crown on one of my bottom molar teeth. I've had a few visits now, and the latest appointment was today. She filled the roots up and put in a temporary filling, of which I have one more appointment to make it a permanent filling.

Tonight, (7 hours hours later) I was eating something, when I felt a small bit of grit (not a good sign), and checked in the mirror - the inside of my tooth was exposed, and the rim of my tooth (closest to my tongue) appears sharp all along the side, and the top seems very flat on the same side. Basically, I'm freaking out incase I have to get a new crown on it. I rang the dentist to leave a voicemail etc. for the morning. There's no pain at all, but I really want to know that if someone could check an image I've linked and tell me if (in their own, non-binding opinion!) if it's absolutely unsavable. Hopefully my dentist will be able to give me a filling or file down the sharp side (or both). I won't be able to sleep worrying about it as it'll break the bank to get another crown on it. However, if it's the only option, I'll go for it as teeth aren't worth compromising over.

Thank you so much for anyone who can give me some advice on this - I really appreciate it.

Cheers,

[Work & Jobs] Negotiate a better starting salary for 12 month maternity replacement contract

Posted by variety:

Hi all- I am extremely likely to be offered an opportunity for a 12 month contract position (2 interviews, personality testing, skills testing and reference checks all complete). HR Manager said I was a "shoe-in" and I am hopeful for an offer today or Monday.
(I know, I know- don;t county my chickens, etc..., but I do want to be prepared for how to react if an offer is made.)

Whilst the salary is good, it falls short of my minimum requirements.
Briefly, I would hope for a 12% increase on the salary, but am prepared to settle for 8% and an increase in title.

I have researched negotiation tactics to increase a starting salary and/or benefits, but have found no hints as to how to go about this when temporarily replacing a person going on maternity leave.

Bear in mind that the company does not have salary banding, and they were aware from the initial phone conversation before the 1st interview of my minimum salary expectation and are happy to proceed.
I have no idea what salary the current incumbent is on.

Do I have any hope whatsoever of negotiating a better salary or better conditions? Any ideas to proceed?

Can anyone recommend a cat sitter they've used/heard good things about in the rough D4/D14ish area (Specifically we're in Clonskeagh)? We boarded our girl last time we went away, and she didn't take to it very well (went on a hunger strike for a few days in protest), so we'd like to keep her in the house while we're away. We got a list off our vet, but it's unfortunately a bit dog biased.

[Bank of Ireland] Dollar account

Posted by Yurple:

Hi everybody,

My company recently started to offer our services on online freelancing websites. On these websites we are getting paid in U.S. Dollars. Normally I get these dollars transferred to my BOI account once per month and sadly getting hit by all sorts of fees and taxes, and left with a lot less than I should.

1 - is there any way to reduce these fees with a new account? Is there a better way of getting it transferred maybe to a credit card or a cheque?

2 - I have to travel to the U.S. at the end of the year for 3 weeks and need several thousand dollars spending money, it would be horrible to change the earned dollars to euro, then back to dollars again. I will be hit by all these fees and taxes and what ever else TWICE. Is there any possible way of avoiding this issue? Can I provide the bank notice that dollars are coming in and keep them as dollars as a once off?

Thanks in advanced and apologies for the unusual questions?

That's the situation and I'm wondering where I stand.

Ordered from the UK and paid by Paypal so my default address was supplied automatically and no telephone number. After about a week I received an email saying the order was back in their warehouse because it could not be delivered. In sympathy to them my address is a rural one and while the postman knows which house couriers usually have to phone. It was a low value item so I didn't expect it to be sent via courier.

The postage was about €4 so it's not a big deal but the prospect of being charged for what I see as their complete failure to deliver irritates me, even though I can easily understand how it happened.

Is there a clear guideline in determining who the onus is on for delivery?

Variations on these themes have been occurring for decades in film, making you wonder if their Sci Fi and horror authors are trying to tell us something (or just raking in the box office profits for entertainment)?
Rather than use virtual or alternative reality landscapes, some dystopian art themes have captured vast differences in real world settlement patterns, including the stark contrast of modern high rise building cityscapes and the nearby shanties of homeless people, "exploring the dichotomy of the haves and have-nots."
I want to tie this back into the bungalow roof so some tiles will have to be removed and a new slope created...so roofer/carpenter needed. The new porch roof will have concrete tiles. It will be plastered in and out.
I will price windows and door later.

[Galway City] Burglary Wellpark Grove Area Info

Posted by Doctor_Socks:

My friends house in Wellpark Grove was broken into on Monday night during the hours of 12:00 and 3:00am while we were out in town and I was wondering if people here might have some possible info on one of the articles that was stolen.

Two items were stolen, a laptop and a navy handbag. The handbag belonged to a friend who was only visiting Galway for the night for her birthday, she specifically left it in the house and only brought out what she needed as she was afraid it would get robbed in town The following morning we found the laptop which had been thrown over a neighbours wall by the burglar which made us think that the burglar might have also thrown the handbag somewhere further down the road after robbing whatever valuable items they could from it. There was a retainer in the bag which is worth quite a lot of money as they need to be specially moulded for the individual. I was told the bag is a navy colour resembling a suitcase shape and is quite large. The burglar left the estate through one of two exits in the estate leading to either Centra or the Eye cinema, not the best description in the world but people from the area will know what i'm talking about and I will post a google maps screenshot later if people need it.

A statement was made to the Gardai the following day and they told us that the chances of finding the handbag were quite slim, hence my post here looking for any possible information on the whereabouts of the handbag. I know there are a lot of good people in Galway but a retainer in a handbag isn't something that people think to hand into the Garda station

If anyone has seen the bag around town it would mean the world to my friend to get it back, this was one of her first trips to Galway and I don't want her to leave with bad memories of the place. Please PM me if you find a bag around the area. Thanks for reading this and also to the mods for letting me post this here.

It is a mixer tap, and only a small dribble comes from tap whether in hot or cold position. I tried opening the feed to tap and water flowed, but when tightened still no water from tap.
[Relationship Issues] Talking about feelings/problems

Posted by Dr. Nooooo!:

This is a problem I seem to have and it has effected some relationships. Ruined them I suppose.

I'm a great listener to other peoples problems or feelings but I don't like to talk about my own and tbh I don't really think I need to.

For example in my last relationship when we talked about personal things I definitely got the impression that she wanted me to reciprocate and talk about my own problems, things that happened me in the past etc, but to be honest I live a simple enough life and don't really seem to have any of these things so I don't really know what to say except to sympathize, reassure etc. She was talking about arguments she had with her family, breakups, fall outs with friends etc I've had these things too of course but they are all trivial and water under the bridge at this stage and outside of the bare facts that they happened I didn't really have anything else to say. And to be honest I wouldn't have wanted to dump it on her anyway especially in contrast to the things she was talking about, it would have looked like I was twisting the conversation to talk about some stupid thing that was going on for me, in contrast to her more serious things.

Like I'd ask her how her day was and she'd tell me a load of stuff, met x and y, x is a so and so, having problems with this person, then she might tell me about whats going on between her friend and her boyfriend or whatever. Then she'd ask me and I'd be like "Nothing much, went to college", if something unusual or funny happened I'd say that. Not much else to say really, if someone told me something personal or I overheard something I wouldn't say it to anyone else, thats someones private business. This sounds like I'm very boring but I'm not, I'm quite witty and funny and a good conversationalist, I mean its not as if there were awkward or prolonged silences. I guess its just that I don't seem to have meaningful things to say about myself, I'll talk all day about any topic under the sun except myself it seems.

Thinking about it now, while lots of friends have come to talk to me about problems or whatever I don't think I've ever talked to any of them about personal problems. My ex was asking me who my best friend was, and I said I dunno who, I've a lot of good friends, and she said that your best friend is the person you talk to about person things etc, and I was like "Well I dont talk about that stuff with any of them". I know I COULD, no problem, if something major was going on and I needed to talk to someone, but that has never really happened, I'm just a private person I guess.

My dad got cancer, thats probably the biggest thing thats happened in recent times, and I didn't tell anyone, I didn't see the need really, if I did people would have made a big deal about it and tbh I didn't want that.

I'm outgoing enough in terms of talking, joking etc but I really don't like talking about my feelings, especially romantic ones. To put it bluntly, while there have been other relationships the last one was the only one I really cared about and was gutted when it ended. I'm early 20s btw. Looking at my friends it seems they are only going out with someone a few weeks and they are going on about how much they love each other. Call me skeptical but I dunno if thats genuine in many cases given the short time frame and how things subsequently turned out. I never said that to my ex, nor she to me, but I got the impression she did. Did I love her? Yes I think I did but I dunno, it's the most I've felt for someone but maybe someone else will come along and it'll blow those feelings out of the water? Been taking my time getting to this but here's the real problem, I found it extremely hard to tell her how I felt about her, I wanted to tell her she was the most important person in the world to me and all that, but any time I went to say something beyond compliments like how I thought she was great, beautiful etc I got the most overwhelming urge to cry. I've no idea why. So in the end I didnt and I settled for assuming that it could be left unsaid and she'd know. Didn't work out too well.

Anyways things went down the tubes drifted apart (well she did) etc and she ended it. I was very upset for a long time

Jesus reading over that looks pretty bad, I guess she thought I wouldn't confide in her, didn't trust and didn't really care about her.

To be honest I never thought I had a problem but obviously seen as it wrecked that relationship I do. I mean I've always been happy enough and its not as if I'm bottling things up and its having a bad effect on my mental state and getting me depressed. I'm just private and independent it seems.

Anyways this has been a bit rambling but I'd appreciate any thoughts/advice. Is there something wrong with me?

Can anyone recommend a good way to get from Santiago Chile to La Paz Bolivia?

I'm spending some time in Santiago, Valparaiso and Santa Cruz and was planning on heading to Mendoza, Arg for a couple of days before heading up north to Atacama in north Chile and into Bolivia via the salt plains.

Is this a possible route to take or is there a more direct way of getting there?Anything in between people would recommend to do/see? Time isn't really an issue as I have 4 months between Chile, Bolivia and Peru before flying out of Rio .
Just wondering have any of you done this race in the past? This years race is on Sunday at 12. I'm debating whether to enter or not. Races organised by GAA clubs are notorious for being very poorly run (excuse the pun!) so to save a wasted journey I thought I'd throw the question out there

Posted by n0brain3r:

Hi all,

The OH has a B6 Passat 1.9TDI and the a/c has packed in.

It works very intermittently and you get a waft of cold air and then luke warm. I tried a topup but it shows that the pressure on the low side is fine.

It's a climatronic system and I've accessed the diagnostics by pressing the ECON and Dash Vent buttons simultaneously. I can see all the temps seem correct and that the compressor is running and under some load but it struggles to get above 6-8 bar sometimes as low as 4 when it does cool it will got to 10/11 for 10-20 secs very very occasionally up to a minute .

I've scanned for codes and nothing relating to HVAC is reported.

I can also see the evaporator temp vs requested and it looks like the system is correctly requesting cooling so internal/external temp sensors should be ok. Plus I think running it on Low should just force full cooling?

As the compressor randomly builds pressure I'm hoping it's ok? Do these partially fail?

I'm thinking the problem maybe with the expansion valve? Anyone have any ideas or experience with these?

Thanks,
