Posted by watty:

Less Masts needs more channels (spectrum) and more power. Double the range per mast needs x4 power on handset/dongle and mast.

More Masts is 1/4 to 1/10th power as range need is much less. No extra channels (spectrum) as the further away channels are re-used. The more masts the fewer simultaneous users on each mast, so those users get more speed (simplistically if there are 1/4 the number of users you get x4 speed)

Low frequency band (800MHz) have inherently less channels possible than high frequency band (2100 to 2600 could have x4 as many channels as 800MHz), yet the physics of Radio Propagation says you need MORE channels at 800MHz than 2100 to 2600 MHz bands. Thus 800 MHz is low capacity, any realistic number of simultaneous users would give about 1/10th or less of the performance possible on higher bands.

1700 MHz to 2700 MHz isn't continuously available in one block, but it's possible to use the separate bands in it in one phone handset, tablet or Dongle and have about x5 spectrum of 800 MHz band and due to ability to have lower power masts closer together the total capacity could be x10 or more of 800MHz and 900MHz bands combined.

The spectrum is a fixed quantity. Only a tiny portion of it is suitable for mobile. But most of the spectrum Mobile has already is badly used. So why sell them the 800MHz TV band?
Greed. It's cheap for operator to extend coverage (but at poor capacity) and allows Regulator to raise money (once off hit) to Treasury.

The Regulator deliberately doesn't impose a single Wholesale Mobile operator as they would only get 1/4 of licence revenue.

BRUSSELS - The EU will ban Internet service providers from manipulating and blocking access to certain websites, according to a European Commission official.

An estimated 236 million European Internet users have suffered a restricted service online (Photo: Bombardier)
Speaking with EUobserver on Tuesday (11 June) following an internal debate among commissioners, an EU official indicated that the proposal would include a ban on blocking and throttling. Bandwidth throttling, where a network provider deliberately slows down the service on certain websites, has been identified as the most common restriction to service.

However, it is likely that exemptions will be included to differentiation based on speed and volume of online traffic.

The proposals, which will form part of an overhaul to the bloc's regulation on the digital telecoms sector, are expected to be published by digital agenda commissioner Neelie Kroes in late July.

"What matters is that people aren't stopped from accessing the content they want and that we maximise network investment so that everything works better because of higher speeds," the official said.

The Netherlands and Slovenia are currently the only EU countries with national laws on net neutrality.

Net neutrality campaigners argue that Internet service providers and governments should treat data equally and not discriminate against or restrict access to websites and online services.

Last week, 20 Internet entrepreneurs signed an open letter calling on EU lawmakers to put in place "safeguards to curb the tendencies of access operators to act as gatekeepers of the Internet."

They said the practice is "harmful to the fundamental rights of users, to new and existing companies counting on the global reach of the Internet to launch and grow their businesses and to innovation and the economy in general."

Meanwhile, evidence collected in 2012 by Berec, the pan-European group of national Internet service providers, found that around one in five fixed lines and over one in three mobile users had restricted services.

For their part, MEPs are likely to support net neutrality rules, having twice adopted non-legislative resolutions calling on the commission to act.

Speaking with this website, Marietje Schaake, a Dutch liberal MEP and prominent digital rights campaigner, welcomed the proposed.

"I'm happy that blocking and throttling will be banned. This practice hurts access to people's information, is anti-competitive and limits an open internet," she said

But she also voiced caution noting that "as ever the the devil will be in the detail", adding that "the gap between relying on transparency and competition as the commission has done in the past and rules that are legally binding is large. I really hope the Commission will take this important step."

I am looking for a courier company or someone with a 40foot curtained articulated lorry to pick up a load in Dublin from Ballycoolin Industrial estate and drop off in Limerick Technology park
the load would be stacked on pallets, shrink wrapped, fork lift to load and unload, size of pallets would be 1.8 metres x1.2 metres and 1.6 metres in height the truck would be full and would need 2 runs or 2 trucks doing 1 run each
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
I'd like to get the Surfer rescue set mainly for the cool shark but, alas, no sign of these sets yet in Dublin shops as of last week.
This is why more politicians need a basic introduction to what computers are and why broadband is so important and also why their hare-brained schemes mostly won't work especially silly ideas like blocking specific sites.
Maybe try suggesting that they follow the badge work program a bit more as from your op it doesn't seem like they are giving it much attention. I know there isn't much they can do as beavers, but I know my own beaver group love working on earning their badges!

Posted by watty:

VDSL is basically a waste of money beyond about 1km to 1.2km. Also number of cables in a bundle can cut that back to 900m. VDSL is short range, it uses a wider band to get the speed. So almost all VSDL gear does ADSL2 to cope with cross talk or longer lines.

Fibre, Coax and Fixed wireless easily beat ANY copper phone line based technology when you get to more than 1.5km and those can all do 20km easily (coax needs cheap repeaters).

Phone line design was chosen to do less than 4kHz Audio. ISDN, DSL, ADSL2, VDSL all do progressively much shorter distances as speed rises from 144kbps to 100Mbps. After all phone wire pair is only Cat3 cable usually and the 100m Limit for 1Gbps Ethernet is actually using 4 pairs at 250Mbps in parallel and is the superior Cat5e cable.

Posted by mikejjp:

ecollege's apprenticeship course notes give 3 methods of wiring lighting one-way circuits:
1. Loop-in method
2. Joint Box method
3. Three Plate Ceiling Rose method
See http://www.ecollege.ie/site/liu/elec...otes/LL222.pdf, p.36

I've come across a first fix that I'm trying to finish off and found this:
https://sites.google.com/site/4occas...e/lightingccts
I've shown how I anticipate the second fix - "Type 4"

My question is: Is there any reason why a neutral terminal strip should not be allowed to 'float' in the box.
Any other issues here?

Good work Pancho, it reiterates the failure to replace Modric aka the failure to sign Moutinho. We probably thought (or at least hoped) Dembele could have filled this void but once Sandro got hit he had far little scope to roam forward. Also, would have been nice to see Carroll grow into this role but every apprentice needs a master and his left for the Bernabeu.

For the life of me I don't know why Dempsey shoots from outside the box because he rarely hits the target. Maybe he's jealous of Bale but he should know that his role is to get into those positions inside the 6-18yd line.

Hudd can't fill this role which was glaringly obvious at the end of last season and I'd be shocked if he remains a Tottenham player for much longer.

I had an incident with FeDex where they messed up on a quotation of a customs charged for me. 6 months after my order they sent another invoice looking for 179euro extra!!!

After ignoring it thinking it was a mistake they really started to get on my case. After all that went on it was the DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY who got the bill halved for me.

As the buyer I had no protection against a company who threatened to blacken my name and I still shouldn't have to pay a penny but on advice of free solicitor consultation I was advised that I shouldn't have to pay it either but they're crooks!!!
