Why not try support Irish tackle shops. Competition in the Market has lowered prices recently to compete with online shops. Leaving yourself wide open for customs when buying from the likes of USA.

There's only really one decent tackle shop near me. I buy a lot of the smaller stuff there. But for stuff like rods they have limited selection and are quite expensive. I wouldn't be looking at getting stuff from the U.S.A. but there are some Euro/UK and even Irish shops that have online shops and deliver to Ireland. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for any of them.

I order flies off selectafly.com all the time. Very good service and value. Haven't bought large tackle items off any of the websites tho. A buddy did tho off Glasgow angling centre. He was very impressed with the service and value the first order but disappointed with the second. That's all I can tell you. Maybe a testament to the fact that it could be hit and miss with the online stores.

Venture Sports, a little further north and midlands is a super little tackle shop in Monaghan town and apart from pretty much all the tackle you could need they also do live bait, dead bait for piking, boots, waterproofs etc etc. Dick is the main man in there and can order in anything that they may not have in stock. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

I bought rods off John Norris & soniksports both on the net and based in the uk had no problem with them.

I am looking at a 10ft 7/8 wt greys grxi+ rod& reel with this crowd for next season

it seems quite reasonable for that & they have a sale on some items at the moment.

Mostly deal with Murphys and Hayes in Wexford town. Both are good. Went into the tackle and gun shop in stillorgan beside the shopping centre a few weeks back when I was up in dublin for the day. Looked good enough but the staff were a bunch of ignorant b******s. The c*** asked me to buy something or leave after I browsed the shop for about 3 minutes. I had intended on buying something small as I dont like to look around a shop without buying something. I gave the pr**k a piece of my mind and left and wont be going back again.

Top gun Drogheda is a great place for all your tackle needs in Drogheda.
Great little shop and the owner is bang on!
He now supplies fox pike range and all deadbaits.
Well worth a pop in if fishing in the north east.

Well known match angler Joe Carley is now supplying bait in Wexford town. I plan to buy bait off him this weekend for a club competition

As this is your first post here I assume you are affiliated with the new site.. Where are you based? There seems to be no details of that on the site, or at least I cant find them.

Thanks

If your in Dundalk theres pretty much 3 shops....

First one: the bicycle doctor. His selection is extremely limited. He mainly deals with bikes but does have a small section on fishing. Only really worth bothering with if your going to be passing right by his door and all you need is hooks or maybe some leader or whatever. But I have to say hes a sound guy. He knows a lot about the local fishing. It would be great to see him focus more on fishing and less on bikes.

Second: Would be the angling center. Hes relatively new in the grand scheme of things. Have to be brutally honest. The guy tends to be on the grumpy side if you dont know him..... His prices arent bad- though Ive yet to get a deal or discount on anything. He has a good selection of flies. Other than that I wouldnt really bother with him to be honest.

Lastly: Island fishing tackle. Have to say hes a very friendly guy, he knows what hes talking about and he usually gives you a good deal on whatever it is your getting. Some days it gets a bit hectic and you could be standing waiting..... Hes got a good over-all selection of stuff. Though he wouldnt have anything too specialised... so dont go there hoping to get yourself that new Dan Vice BTW: Slight OT but he also caters for hunting, so he carrys firearms, snares, decoys etc....
